Pros: fun camera to use; great for parties; teens will love it; instant tiny photos
Cons: dull colored photos; expensive film--but after all, it's Polaroid!
The Bottom Line: The Polaroid I-Zone Camera is lots of fun for those instant photos. This camera makes 1 1/2" by 1" of actual photo that is then used as a sticker. Teens/Parties
lorirobe's Full Review: Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Film Camera
I was first introduced to the Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Camera about two years ago at my office Christmas Party. A woman went around to each table taking shots of the guests at each table. It was a fun idea and everyone enjoyed seeing the cute little 1" by 1 1/2" pictures that they received.
My sister just purchased the I-Zone camera for my husband. He is always interested in fun little gadgets and this might fit the bill for some of those on your shopping list as well.
The Polaroid I-Zone camera is about 7" long and less than 2" wide. It comes in various bright, fun colors. The one I own is transparent with bright blue accents. This camera was on sale for $19.99 in the CVS drugstore. The camera uses 2 AA batteries which come with the camera.
The camera has an easy to use dial that has four functions. There is the “off” mode, the picture of the person in the little house, I am assuming means for photos taken at a distance. There is really no instruction to explain it. Then, of course, the sun for outdoor shots and the cloudy weather shot for flash. What I especially like is that once a photo is taken, the flash will automatically shut off. This prevents carelessly leaving the flash on. The center button on the dial is the button to press when taking the photos. Very easy!
In terms of the photos, Your little rectangle of a photo will be surrounded by a band of a lightly colored border on the right and on the left. You then cut down the strips to make a ¼ “ border on each side of the picture. Just cut the strips along the dotted lines. The top and bottom border is black photo paper. The photos have a thin cellophane film that is removed and there you go, stick the little picture anywhere.
This camera is really geared towards kids. My 4 year old nephew has one and I think teens would love it. It’s a lot of fun to watch the gray colored swatch develop into pictures. I highly recommend this as a gift for those hard to buy for 11 and 12 year olds.
The quality of the pictures are slightly dull in the coloring--but, this is a Polaroid, after all. If you want a real camera, look up some of Howard Creech’s or Surferdude’s reviews!
The camera comes with a brightly colored pamphlet with some fun party ideas where the pictures of all of the guests are used in games. Cute idea for teens.
But keep in mind that this film is not cheap. 12 exposures cost about $8. And if you’re getting this camera for the little tykes they could probably snap that up in one hour! Also, supervise, because I think if this cheap plastic casing fell to the ground, that would probably be the end of the I-Zone Pocket Camera!
November 25: I just must update this opinion. Last night, when lots of friends were over, and many I-Zone photos were taken, I made a great discovery. When you are done with the film, you will be left with a small box when you pull out the cartridge. This little box is a snap top box that is the perfect size to store all of you little I-Zone photos. What a great idea!
