ralphphillips's Full Review: Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Film Camera
Want to decorate your computer monitor? The little self-stick pictures produced by the I-zone instant camera a super for the job.
I purchased the digital/instant combo camera for my wife. We already had a decent digital camera, but I was able to get the combo for just $20 after a $50 rebate from tigerdirect. Well, I basically paid for just the instant camera.
The digital camera portion of the combo is not worth paying for. You can get a very basic digital camera that takes good pictures for less than $100. The digital pics we’ve been getting from the i-zone have been dark except when taken outdoors. And, it has a real problem taking close-ups. For that matter, detail in long rang shots doesn’t work either.
We’ve been super happy with the little instant pictures. They are obviously tiny, but they still produce a very nice photo. You’ve got to make sure some lights are on, but even indoors the pictures are sharp. If you’re creative, you can think of some fun things to do with the little pictures. We use most of them to decorate our computer monitors.
The combo camera is unusual in that it is literally a combo camera. Polaroid literally took two cameras and stuck them together. Except for battery power, the two cameras don’t share any hardware.
Bottom line, I think the i-zone camera is great for $15. If you have the opportunity to get the combo camera for the same price, don’t. Stick with the basic one. You’ll have a greater choice of colors and it’ll be easier to find the nylon camera case. You won’t miss the digital camera.
