| mcswarsik's Full Review: Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Film Camera |
My sister presented her niece with a Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Camera for Christmas. As my daughter showed me her gift, I said "cool". Upon further inspection I said "COOL".
Polaroid's are famous for their ability to take instant photos. You snap a picture, pull a tab and out comes a negative that develops before your very eyes.
The Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Camera continues this tradition of no waiting photography but in a new, unique fashion. It takes postage stamp size sticker photos. I found this amazing (I'm easily amazed). They are
1 1/2" wide x 1" high.
I remember a rather large boxy Polaroid that took terrible pictures. This camera is a small pocket camera and the pictures are actually of good quality..Although very small. It is not good for panoramic shots. Recommended distance to subject is 8' max.
Reminiscent of 110 film, you open the back, drop it in, close it, pull the tab and it's ready to go. It is hard for a child to pull the film out. My daughter is 7 and has yet to accomplish this feat. Everything else is easy for her and she has taken some good shots.
The camera has 4 settings.
Off
A depiction of a house for indoor pics (comes with a built-in flash)
A sun...Outdoor, sunny days
A cloud and a sun....for ummmm....Not so sunny days
After each picture is snapped, it automatically goes to the off position. More coolness. Won't waste the two AA batteries that come with it. Also includes a sample 6 shot trial film pack and carrying case.
There are two types of film priced according to where you buy it.
Sticky film is about $18.00 for a 3-pk of 36 shots
Non-stick film is $16.00 (you can always use tape or glue)
Also can be purchased as single rolls with 12 pictures.
The camera was a gift but they range from $18-25.00.
The sticky stuff isn't really that sticky. I took a picture of my daughter and her friend. The friend stuck it on her shirt and it fell off before she left. My daughter says they don't stick well on anything and in her words "they peel pretty good off". I still think they're Cool though.
My daughter's is silver but they also come in red, blue, green and (if my daughter finds out, she will be mad she didn't get this one) Barbie with that 60's Flower Power look. Yeah Baby!
The Polaroid I-Zone Pocket Camera would, primarily make a great gift for a child or teenager. The photos, while of good quality are only good for decorations or collages. Although I could see some uses for adults such as adorning your computer with them or if you are an international spy, you could use it for making your fake IDs and passports.
In a word....Cool.
