Pros: very affordable for under $100;
easy to use;
swivel screen
Cons: short battery life;
mediocre picture quality
The Bottom Line: Buy it. It provides decent sound and an easy-to-use control panel with a swivel screen all for less than $125. The competition almost always costs $20 more.

| dodgestinks's Full Review: Polaroid DPA-00710S 7 in. Portable DVD Player with... |
After procrastinating for a year on a portable DVD player, I decided to get one. I did some research and found a great deal at Target. They were selling this for only $99. The next lowest price was an unknown brand for $150! The screen has a lock to prevent it from flying open. I find this a handy feature because I frequently put it in a bag with other loose items. When you rotate the screen, it folds down and the lock holds it in place so you can mount it on a pouch behind a seat. It comes with a battery, A/V cable and separate wall and car chargers. For some reason, there is an IR port but I can't find any information about remotes for it. The buttons are very easy to use. Although some are dual-function, this severely cuts down on clutter and I frequently use it with the lights out without any problems. Despite the incredible price, it feels solidly made and doesn't squeak or flex. I just wish the battery lasted longer.
The built-in speakers are equal to most other expensive players if not better. Trust me, if you don't think it's loud at full volume, you're losing your hearing. I tried them with headphones and the sound quality is great.
The only downsides are the poor battery life (barely 2 hours) and average screen. I have a few VHS tapes with similar picture quality. It took me less than half an hour to figure out how to operate everything including the adjustments in the setup menu. I never had to really look at the instruction manual.
If you want a very affordable, reliable portable DVD player, you should consider this if no other alternative is available for under $125. If any other brand is available for under $140, try to watch the same movie on both. Pick the one with the best picture quality. Even if you decide to get this one, you'll still be getting an excellent deal. Try not to spend more than $125 for it as it seems to be going on sale at various places from time to time. Target is a good place to start looking if they still carry it. There were only two left and I had to search three stores before I found one. Still, it was worth the effort.
