Oh the joys of modern television viewing or high fidelity music listening mated with a solid Audio/Visual (A/V) stereo receiver with High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) inputs ports. And oh, let's not forget the speakers; one has to have a solid set of surround sound speakers to round out the entertainment package. Enter the Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Surround Sound Speak System.

The receiver I had been using a Sony STR-DE935 had 5.1 surround, but the 10 year old receiver lacked the latest HDMI ports. And the surround 5.1 channels stopped working. So it was time for a new A/V receiver with at least (4) HDMI inputs, 7.1 Surround Sound, a Phono (turntable) input (these are next to impossible to find on any receiver expect higher end boxes), at least 100 Watts per channel into 8 ohms, and the latest Dolby Digital technology, all at a reasonable price-point.
After a considerable amount of research I decided upon the Denon AVR-2310CI A/V receiver in black. Along with the new receiver I picked up the Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Surround Sound Speak System for $249.99 at J&R Music & Computer. Why Polk Audio? I have owned Polk's before and have been very satisfied with the sound quality. And the speakers are affordable and attractively designed.

The (4) RM7 left /right & rear speakers have (1) 2.5" diameter dynamic balance composite cone (Midrange) driver, and (1) .5" diameter tweeter; while the (1) RM7 Center speaker is fitted with (2) 2.5" diameter dynamic balance composite cone (Midrange) driver, and (1) .5" diameter tweeter.
I am very, very pleased with the Polk Audio RM705 Surround Sound Speak System. With a maximum input power rating of 100 w/channel these speakers are ideal for my needs.
The Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker System components are sleek and modern looking. The sound is splendid; crystal clear and beautifully reproduced. I have a fairly large room and the speaker easily fill it up with remarkable sound.
The Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker System has proven to be the perfect mate to my Denon AVR-2310CI; surround sound is amazing and nothing like what I used to get from my old setup. And since I watch almost all of my programming in full HD, 5.1 Surround Sound is part of the deal. I am now enjoying television and movies in clear, crisp, bass-enhanced sound! And the system can easily be expanded to 7.1 surround with the addition of side speakers.
A bit of fine tuning was necessary to on the subwoofer in order to get the bass just right, but after about 15 minutes of listening to various musical passages I found a comfortable level. The 50 watt powered subwoofer itself is of decent size. The power switch can be set to auto so that the unit shut itself down after 15 minutes of no signal input from the receiver. The other settings are of course "on" and "off"; needless to say I set it to "auto." In addition there is a volume control.
The RM7 Center, center speaker is a bit larger than the rest of the small satellite speaker only because it contains (1) more driver. The satellite speakers are a bit heavy, which I like, that means they'll stay in place. It also means they're solidly built and will last.
One disappointment: the Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theater Speaker System ships with wall mounts for the satellite speakers, but no stands. I do not want to mount the speakers on the wall. I checked Polk's website and no short stands are offered for the speakers, only floor stands and they are expensive at $189.00 a pair.
Other than the little niggling stand issue mentioned above, I have nothing but love for my new set of Polk Audio RM705 5.1 Surround Sound Home Theater Speakers. Smartly designed, affordable, with more than enough sound to meet my needs, this 5.1 surround sound speaker system is a keeper, a solid winner. Buy a set, you'll be glad you did.
