Pros: Will entertain a younger child of 5 or less. Is amusing for a few hours.
Cons: Batteries run down fast, does not interact as well as advertised and I personally think that the price is too high for what it can do.

| bluehawq's Full Review: Poo-Chi The Interactive Puppy |
Yep! I fell for it. The T.V. commercials and all the excitement that it generated in my now, 7 year old. Oh..MOM..I have to have a Poo-chi! Jason, my little electronic toy/game wiz kid, decided that this was exactly what he wanted for his 7th birthday. So...it was done.
At $24.98 per pooch, I could deal with that. So I toted one of these (this one being with green trim) to the check out at our local Wal-Mart supercenter. I thought "oh happy day...got what he was wanting and it did not cost an arm and leg"! Got it home, wrapped it and it sat there for 3 days quietly waiting his little prying hands to open him up.
The day finally came. October 14th and Jason was up and ready for his cake and presents at 6:00 in the a.m.! Of course he had to endure the pains of being very impatient for another 6 hours. But the hour did finally come and he did blow out his candles and begin to open his presents. He had a bunch of them too, but when he reached the Poo-Chi present his eyes widened and bigs smiles over-took his little face as he spied the little green and silver mechanical dog inside!
Yes, Yes! He was beside himself. I got it! He definitely was in total awe with this one. Yep, for about 3 hours. Now it shamelessly sits on the shelf over his bed and has been sitting there since the day of his party.
A big disappointment this one is people. Maybe, for a 3 year old this would be more suiting. A younger child than that of 5-7 years old is more interested in the sounds and movement that the toy is making than in the technical aspects of it and what things it can do beyond making noise. Jason was impressed for about the first hour. You know, learning how to use it. How to make it bark, sing songs, interact in general. But it never quite seemed to get past barking and singing and sitting down.
Thats what it does. It responds to sounds (ie..clapping hands, speaking loud, touching it, putting the bone in it's mouth, and pressing the button on it's head). It sits down and stands back up. It can do a small unimpressive jig on it's toes. It sings a few songs(barks them), such as: When the saints go marching in(unusual), Bingo, I've been working on the railroad and Oh dooda day, and a couple of others. It's eyes will change shapes according to it's mood and it's mouth will open if he is hungry and wishes to have his bone. The bone interacts with it. There is a sensor just under it's nose where you can touch the bone to it to get a reaction. There is really nothing more that it can do and the sound of it's barking can wear thin on your nerves very quickly.
Jason lost interest in this toy next to immediately, much to my disappointment and his. I would not recommend this toy to any child over the age of 5 or a child under the age of 5 if she/he is advanced enough to care about anything more than sounds and movement.
Update! 12-12-00
It would seem that Poo chi has fizzled out! No demand and plenty to be had if one so chooses. So another prediction gone wrong. Tekno is pretty big but as for Poo chi, prices has dropped and it is no longer sought after like it was expected. A big disappointment for it's maker. The average price for Poo chi now is about $17.00. Thanks.
I would like to include this though. My brother is a district manager for Wal-Mart and he told me that this toy, according to popular demand and statistics is going to be the most sought after toy for Christmas. Kids are excited about it and most are wanting it. Parents are seeking it for their children. My brother said that even though it is not the product that the company has made it out to be, it is still going to sell like hotcakes and expects there to be a demand for it, thus creating somewhat of a shortage during the holiday seasons. He also suspects the price to increase in some stores as the holidays approach also. So if you are still determined to get one of these (uninteractive) poochies for your child, I suppose you need to get on the stick and get it done. You may find yourself with a child wanting it bad and you not being able to get it or paying more than you would for it at this point. But buyer beware...it is not as impressive as you might would hope and your child will tire of it very soon.
I surely hope that this will help some of you make a more informed decision concerning this toy. Some may like it and play with it for a long time. If you buy this, I hope that this is the case. But think it over before you do. There are better, more advanced interactive toys on the market that will deliver more than this one has promised.
For your information: This toy uses three AAA batteries and drains them fast!
