| box543's Full Review: Pooh Giant Plush |
I actually own two of these giant Pooh-bears. Both were given to me as birthday gifts from people who know about my not-so-secret obsession with the A. A. Milne stories. The bears were given to me a year apart and there are definite differences between the two, oddly enough.
Both bears are large - over 24 inches tall. Both have tags that say they are machine washable, but I've never needed to tempt fate with that one. Both bears have their eyes and noses solidly attached; so, I think that there's minimal chance of choking hazard with this toy.
The first one was given to me in 1997. Its plush "fur" is shorter and feels to be of a higher, thicker quality. The stuffing is more solidly packed; so, the shape and posture of Pooh is sturdy and keeps its form. The red shirt seems thicker and more crisp on this Pooh.
The second Pooh was given to me in 1998. Its fur is longer and feels to be of a lesser quality. The fur also has a shaggy appearance in some places. This Pooh's stuffing is either a lower quality than the other or perhaps he just isn't as fully stuffed. Because of this, his form isn't as sturdy and he sometimes seems to be leaning or flopping over. The red shirt on this Pooh seems to be thinner and doesn't lay as nicely.
Neither of my Pooh-bears is a "knock-off" or "look-alike." They both have original Disney tags sewn onto them and they both had Disney hang tags on their ears when I got them. So, I'm not sure why the quality differs. I do know that the first one I was given was bought at a Disney Store, but I don't know where the other one was purchased. Does Disney carry higher quality merchandise in its speciality stores? I don't know the answer to that question.
Regardless of the quality differences, both of these guys are loveable and huggable and look great in our guest room (which is decorated in a Winnie the Pooh theme). As far as I know, my little cousins haven't noticed the difference in quality when they've played with them - I think they're just happy that I have more than one.
I know that the giant Pooh-bears can be rather expensive as far as plush toys go - they seem to hover in the $40 range. So, I would suggest looking several places, including the Disney Store, if you decide to buy one. That way, you can find the right "quality" bear for your needs. After all, if they are all about the same price, it's always nice to get the higher quality.
Chances are good that your little one isn't going to be disappointed with this toy, no matter the quality. I know that I was thrilled to get mine!
