Pros: Very Portable...Entertaining
Cons: Where are Tigger and Rabbit?
I admit that I am in love with Pooh. Winnie the Pooh that is. I love everything about this very special bear and his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. Since my daughter?s playroom is decorated with a life size mural of Pooh and his many friends, I also actively seek out Pooh inspired toys. Mattel?s Pooh - Honeypot Fun Carry Around Playset was added to our home nearly two years ago and we have not been disappointed.
The Pooh - Honeypot Fun Carry Around Playset is not the type of toy that your child will play with every single day, but you will find it invaluable. I purchased mine for my daughter when she was 2 1/2 and we were planning on being away from home for an extended visit. I had agreed to visit my parents in northern Minnesota and then drive my mother to the Mayo Clinic for medical testing. We were planning on being at the Mayo Clinic and in a hotel room for over a week. As I was driving nearly 700 miles for the trip, I needed toys that would not only entertain my daughter, but be easy to travel with and pack. When I stumbled across this playset in my local Disney store, I knew that I had discovered a winner.
HAVEN OF BLISS:
The playset consists of a honeypot shaped home with a carrying handle. The exterior resembles a honeypot with yellow honey spilling out of the top (this is the roof). A real working door gives access to the house. Painted bees hover outside of the window and doorway.
The house snaps together at the side and then opens to reveal an enchanting interior...including a second level that is accessed by a removable ladder. Whoever designed this playset was a real detail person and obviously understands Pooh very well. You can really imagine Pooh living in a house just like this.
While many of the details are simply molded into the background, they are still charming...a portrait of Pooh and a honeybee adorn one wall (Pooh?s favorite honey producer perhaps?) and there is the usual collection of honey pots and honeycombs. A dimensional cupboard is near the doorway and upstairs on the second level is a beehive shaped honey producing device. This is my favorite interior feature. A pipe leads to the roof for the bees and honey to enter and it is surrounded by bees. They appear to be the ?right sort of bees? too (as Pooh would say), as a steady stream of honey flows down the spout.
Included in the set are figures of Pooh, Piglet and Eyeore. Also included are a ladder (for the second floor), a wagon (for Eyeore to pull), a table, honeypot stools and an adorable potbellied stove. Everything that a bear needs to entertain his friends.
All of the figures and accessories fit inside the house. The handle makes it easy to transport the playset anywhere...and I do mean anywhere.
WHAT WE LOVE:
It goes everywhere...quickly and easily. In addition to keeping my daughter occupied for a week in a strange hotel room, the playset is usually the first thing that I pack in my tote bag when we head to a restaurant or doctor?s office. It requires nothing more than your child?s imagination and the charming figures and furniture keeps your child entertained for hours. We have found ourselves trapped in restaurants with extremely slow service and my daughter barely notices the time...she?s too busy playing with her Honeypot.
Extended Play Value:
My daughter is now almost 4 1/2 and she show?s no signs of outgrowing this toy. The toy is specifically designed for toddlers. The manufacturer's age recommendation is 2 and up which I feel is appropriate. The upper age limit really depends on each individual child, however, I have no doubt that my daughter will still play with hers for at least another year or two. This toy extends well beyond the toddler years.
The Pooh - Honeypot Fun Carry Around Playset is nearly indestructible. Very high quality plastic which cleans easily. The accessories are also made of durable plastic. The only part of the accessories that could possibly be damaged by an overzealous child is the harness on Eyeore?s wagon which is flexible.
It is an incredibly charming toy. Full of enchanting Pooh inspired details.
As much as I love Pooh, Piglet and Eyeore, I would have loved to have seen Tigger included, as well as that oft neglected creature, Rabbit.
Just How Does It All Fit?:
Perhaps I?m impaired when it comes to this sort of thing, but I frequently have trouble getting all of the stuff back into the honeypot. I can never manage to make it all fit back in exactly the same way and I usually end up having to stuff one or more of the characters through the doorway.
Where or Where Has the Yellow Paint Gone?:
Most of the colored areas on the toy have the color molded right into the plastic, however, the honey ?roof? and bees on the exterior of the house have yellow paint applied directly to the surface. This paint hasn?t proven to be as durable as the rest of the toy and the paint is now scratched and missing in several areas. This is the only part of the toy that keeps it from appearing brand new.
Mattel?s Pooh - Honeypot Fun Carry Around Playset is a must have for any Pooh lover and any parent that is looking for a toy that will keep your child entertained away from home. Few toys meet the requirements for both entertainment and portability, but this is one that does that and more.
