Pros: Only nailer that took 16gauge nails from 3/4" all the way to 21/2"
Cons: Minor-you must attach the adapter piece to use the 3/4" nails-small inconvience
The Bottom Line: Quality company, built well with a good feel to it. Not much plastic like some others. Best array of nail sizes at 16 gauge, not 18 like others.

| faithful_frank's Full Review: Porter-Cable 2 1/2" Finish Nailer FN250A |
I purchased the FN250A with the combo package, getting the 6 gallon pancake air compressor with it. Good deal from Home Depot. I have used other nailers, but this one was the only one I could find that would do from 3/4" nails, (great for small moulding details) up to 2 1/2" nails, (great for setting interior pre-hung doors, etc).
Porter Cable stands behind the product. This gun seemed better then Botstitch, etc. It has an adjustable exaust on top, and you could see very well how many nails are left in the gun.
This is contractor quality. The instruction book was adaquate, but could have been better. Unit came with an assortment of nails, bottle of oil, safety glasses, all in a well made plastic case. Gun has an adjustable exaust port.
This gun will accept both Porter-cable nails, and Paslode brand nails. One nice feature about the Porter-Cable nails is that they come in both small clear plastic packages, great for a small job that you need to buy size that you need just a few of, and a bigger box size, great for the more common sizes that you will use in quanity.
I have found the Paslode brand works well, and can be found to be less expensive then the Porter-Cable brand many places. Home Depot stocks both brands, so you can compare for yourself. I also like that it takes the thicker 16 gauge nails instead of the smaller 18 gauge nails.
Before I bought this gun, I spent about 30 minutes talking to the Porter-Cable rep. This sales rep was very helpful in my decision making, and although I am sure she was biased towards her company, I remember that she made many good persuasive points that made me choose this product over the Stanley-Bostitch.
In short, the main reason I bought this gun is because it was the only gun I found out there that shot from 3/4 inch all the way to 2 1/2 inch. This was an important feature for me. I do not have a framing gun, and I have used this even when framing a difficult wall, etc, when I just needed a "starter" nail to hold before nailing the rest with 16D framing nails. The 2 1/2 inch size can be quite helpful.
