When I spied Post Honey Nut Shredded Wheat at my grocery store several years ago, I thought it would be a cereal my husband would love. Shredded Wheat is one of his favorite cereals, and he loves honey, he even puts it in his coffee.

It sounded appealing to me as well, because I love Honey Nut Cheerios and this sounded like it would taste similar, only with shredded wheat instead of oat bran.
This Post cereal consists of bite sized shredded wheat pieces, and it available in a 20 ounce box. It consists of
100% natural whole wheat grains, with a touch of honey as well as toasted almonds.
The cereal is baked so it's very crunchy, is actually low in fat (96% fat free), is low in sodium, and is fortified with vitamins and minerals.
My husband likes the Post Honey Nut Shredded Wheat cereal, but I was actually a little disappointed in it because I didn't think it has enough of the honey taste, not nearly as much as the Cheerios has. Still, if it came down to eating the Honey Nut Shredded Wheat or Post's original Shredded Wheat, I would choose the honey version.
Healthwise, it has a fair amount of calories, 230 if you eat it with fat free milk, and while that is how I do eat my cereal, most people use at least 2% milk with their cereals. It is low in fat, with only 1.5 grams, contains no cholesterol, only 70mg of sodium (not too bad compared to some cereals), 44 grams of carbs, 12 grams of sugar (quite high), and 4 grams of protein.
Ingredients are: Whole Grain Wheat, Sugar, Honey, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Sunflower and/or Canola Oil), Almonds, Partially defatted Wheat Germ, Salt, Caramel Color. BHT Added to Packaging Material to Preserve Product Freshness.
I give this to my daycare children on occasion, but not too often, as it's just pushing the amount of sugar I can give them as mandated by the USDA Food Program I participate in, which limits the sugars to 12 grams. While the kids LOVE this cereal, there are healthier choices out there, so it remains an occasional treat.
The only drawback for me in eating this cereal is that the nuggets are pretty hard and crunchy and they sometimes irritate my sensitive gums. This has about the same crunchy texture as Post Frosted Shredded Wheat, and I think the larger versions of Shredded Wheat are a bit softer in texture.
If you like Shredded Wheat and honey, give these a try, it's now one of my husbands favorite cereals.
