| PalmerLD's Full Review: Pounce Hairball Treat Ment |
Newton, our 4 year old male Manx cat, periodically develops hair balls. Even though he is a short-haired cat, every time he "grooms" (bathes) himself, he swallows hair. Hair balls are formed when hair accumulates in a cat's gastrointestinal tract and thus, forms a ball. Not only can they be uncomfortable, they can also interfere with the cat's digestion and elimination. Regular brushing can help to eliminate hair balls.
What are the symptoms of hair balls? They can include:
* gagging
* dry heaves
* constipation
* dry coughing
* straining during bowel movement
* vomiting after meals
Pounce Hair Ball Treat Ment, manufactured by Heinz Pet Products, comes in a 1.7 oz. plastic container, and can be found in the cat treats area of your local grocery store. This product helps to prevent and eliminate hair balls in cats and kittens over 8 weeks of age, and it comes in the shape of a tasty cat treat.
The directions for use (and I am listing from the label) are:
(1) FEED RECOMMENDED QUANTITY ALL AT ONE TIME, IN-BETWEEN MEALS AND WITHOUT OTHER FOOD.
(2) TO ELIMINATE HAIR BALLS:
For adult cats, feed 3-5 pieces once a day until hair ball is eliminated.
(3) TO PREVENT HAIR BALLS:
For adult cats, feed 3-5 pieces once or twice a week.
(4) USE WITH KITTENS:
For kittens over 8 weeks of age, feed 3-5 pieces once or twice a week.
As with all other products, use only as directed. Consult your veterinarian if symptoms should continue. This is not to be given to kittens under the age of 8 weeks, and as with any medication, should be kept away from children and other pets.
I have tried this hair ball treatment with Newton and it works! It has the same benefits of other hair ball remedies, and is not as messy. Plus, it is about the size of a cat treat and apparently tastes good, as Newton readily eats it...I just put it in his food dish. I have tried other remedies that we have gotten from our veterinarian and I find them to be messy, and harder to administer. They come in a tube (similar to toothpaste) and you squeeze some out, and put it on the cat's nose to stimulate taste interest (we have tried Laxatone, and I believe the other one was Catalax). I highly recommend Pounce Hair Ball Treat Ment, and it is by far much easier to administer than the tube remedies.
Please Note:
FYI...I picked up a new flavor of this treatment today (9/12/00): crunchy tuna flavor with gel inside. I have not tried this yet, so I have no idea whether or not Newton will like it, but it's good to know that there are two flavors available.
