bluehawq's Full Review: Pounce Hairball Treat Ment
Ah yes, yet another cat treat. But not just any cat treat! Have you ever wondered why you don't see or hear Morris singing the off key aaacckkk musical? It is probably because of the little tamale looking cat treats that Pounce makes to control and eliminate hairballs. Not that the Heinz Company would ever let us witness such an event and would probably rather we, the cat lover public, believe that such a thing would never happen to Morris. I am here to inform you that it happens to all beloved felines at some point in their Heinz no matter how well that you have taken care of them. No, its not a pretty sight to behold and the sound that a cat can make while trying to rid themselves of this disgusting lump can send even the strongest stomachs reeling.
What is the evidence of a hairball? How will I know that my Morris is in need of hacking up a wad? It is really quite simple. Signs that your cat is suffering from hairballitis will be these symptoms: constipation, dry hacking cough, tries to send back what you have fed him/her and seeing hair in their vomit. I know that this is most unappealing but I have witnessed 3 sorts of hairball vomit from my cats over the years. No, all hairball regurgitation is not alike. I have seen recycled food in the form of a clear liquid that is almost watery like with flecks of hair included. I have seen vomit that comes out in a tubular form that still looks like cat food with the exception that it contains hair. And of course I have seen just wads of matted hair come up. So, you have at least three observations to make here according to just my own personal experience with my cats.
Hairballs can make you cat very ill and even end their life. I personally have never lost a cat to hairballs but have an acquaintance that did. The cat literally choked to death. So you see it is very important that you do you best to keep Morris free of this affliction.
I was actually pretty skeptical at first with the claims that Heinz makes about their product Pounce Hairball Treat Ment and how it can eliminate and help prevent hairballs. I have always used either an over the counter tube medicine or a prescription from our vet. I decided to try it though and have had much success with it. Having now just 24 cats, I adopted some out recently, I only had noticed a problem with hairballs in two of them. My older one Zerbert and one of my newest ones O.J. I began giving them the Pounce Hairball Treat Ment and with-in a week I knew that the hairballs were gone. All that hacking and vomiting had stopped and they were going to the litter box regular once again. It would seem that no matter what you feed them, they would just throw it back up. So, I have to say that it does work and quite well at that.
How to give you cats the Pounce Hairball Treat Ment safely and have the best results: First of all, 9 Lives recommends that you do not give you kitten the Pounce Hairball Treat Ment if it is under the age of 8 weeks. They state that you should give you cat the treat on a regular basis, as in, 3 to 5 pieces once or twice a week. That is to maintain and prevent hairballs. If you need to rid your feline of hairballs then Heinz recommends that you feed your cat 3 to 5 pieces once per day until the hairball is gone. But with a kitten they recommend that you only give them 3 to 5 pieces once or twice a week either way and make sure they are over the age of 8 weeks. Be sure to feed recommended doses all at one time and in-between meals with-out other food! This treat has the same benefits as traditional hairball meds so there is no need to worry about whether or not it will work. I know that since it is considered a treat there may be some concern there as to it's effectiveness.
Heinz's, Pounce Hairball Treat Ment comes in two flavors. Original (soft chicken flavor) and crunchy Tuna flavor. I have used both and my cats love them equally. They are small and soft with a liquidy center where the medicine lives. They put in mind of small, baby looking tamales! You can purchase the Pounce Hairball Treat Ment in either a reasonable pouch form or a 1.7 ounce stay fresh canister(which is what I use). Ingredients in the original flavor, which is what I happen to have on hand at the moment are as follows:
Malt syrup, mineral oil, pregelatinized wheat flour, wheat flour, water, soy flour, beef, fructose, glycerine, animal digest, dried egg product, chicken meal, torula yeast, sugar, salt, dried cheddar cheese, phosphoric acid, gum arabic, chicken stock, potassium chloride, potassium sorbate (used as a preservative), cellulose gum, titanium dioxide, calcium sulfate, red 40, bha (used as a preservative)
And here is a copy of the warning statement issued by Heinz:
Use only as directed. Should symptoms persist, consult a veterinarian. Do not administer to kittens less than eight weeks of age. Keep this and all medication out of reach of children and other pets.
I would like to say that you too can help your cat stay free from hairballs in addition to using the Pounce Hairball Treat Ment. If you will brush your cat on a regular basis it will help keep him/her from digesting so much hair as they clean themselves. Plus it sure helps make for a pretty coat, thats "fur" sure!
I certainly hope that this has helped in someway for those of you who are not familiar with the effects a hairball can have on your feline buddy. Regular use of the Pounce Hairball Treat Ment and keeping a regular brushing routine can pretty much assure your cat will not have to suffer the agony associated with hairballs.
While some cats don't mind taking a hairball treatment, others will do anything not to! These are the cats Pounce Hairball Treat-Ments were made for. ...More at PetSmart
