| Chelie11's Full Review: Pounce Hairball Treat Ment |
If you are a cat owner, I know you've heard it. The terrible noise in the middle of the night that is a sure sign that you are likely to find a "gift" on the carpet in the morning. "Yeeech! Hecch! Yeech!" *sigh* Roll over.
Mittens, my 14 year old calico Persian has the type of hair that produces the biggest and baddest "Yeeechs" on it's way back out! Any cat is susceptible to coughing up these small rat looking vomits but kitties with long hair do it violently, often, and with tons of neat-o sound affects. Hairballs are caused by an accumulation of the hair your cat swallows while grooming in the gastrointestinal tact.
Up until recently there has only been one remedy that worked fairly well to reduce the occurrence of hairballs ... if you could get your cat to eat it. It was a gel malt that you could squeeze onto your finger, their nose, or paw in order for them to lick it up. The malt formula helped to break down the hair in the gastrointestinal tact and helped to "pass" it the good old-fashioned way by making things more 'slippery'. The problem with previous remedies is that they stunk and were a tar like substance. So if you had a cat who was just to prissy to eat anything of of human fingers (like mine) they would often get this brown ooey gooey mess onto the carpet as they pranced off to lick the gel off of their paws.
Pounce Hairball Treatment which comes in a 1.7oz. round can with a foil & a plastic lid which make for easy resealing and freshness control. For adult cats, feed them 3-5 pieces once a day until hairball is eliminated. Then to prevent hairballs, feed 3-5 pieces once or twice a week. Feed between meals, all treats at one time, with no other foods.
Each "treat" is a tiny pillow with the standard pounce "treat" on the outside. Inside the pillow is stuffed with the aforementioned malt gel. Mittens eats these very well, even though I've never seen her eat another cat treat in my life. She's a very very picky cat, and if she will eat them I suspect almost any of your feline friends will too! The only time she will not even consider eating them is if they have lost some of their moisture. They become hard and difficult to chew. Mrs. Finicky herself looks at them let's out a little "Pfft!" and marches away.
So far, following the dosage and treatment instructions carefully, and brushing regularly Mittens hasn't had a late night (or even morning or midday) "Yeeeech" in over 3 months!!! This product definitely works, just ask my carpet !!
