| Dunkjam's Full Review: Pounce Hairball Treat Ment |
I have a long haired Himalayan cat named Dusty who is now five years old. He is a finicky cat and likes to lick his fur often. We have always had trouble getting Dusty to take the various hairball remedies on the market. I did use a gel which I placed on his paws so he would lick off the gel treatment. He really hated that one! I even took him to a local veterinarian and had is fur clipped off so that all he had left was a bushy tip on the end of his tail and the furry paws! Then I got mad and decided that the reason I purchased this type of pet was because I loved his tricolor fur and the way he looked. He liked to be brushed, but he still likes to lick his fur!
Then I thought I would try Pounce Hairball Treatment which comes in a 1.7oz. round carton with a recloseable lid. The main direction is to give 3-5 pieces once a day until hairball is eliminated.
What are the cat's symptoms for signs of hairball? They will have a dry cough, vomiting after meals, and constipation. You will usually find long formed hairballs that they have left behind on your furniture or carpet. Beside using a hairball treatment regime, you should also have a regular routine of brushing your cat's fur, especially if he has long fur like my cat, Dusty.
What makes cats form hairballs? Everytime a cat grooms his fur, the hair he is licking may accumulate in his gastrointestinal tract and form into hairball. These hairballs can interfere with digestion and elimination. Hairballs are the most frequently mentioned health problem or condition of cats.
What types of remedies are available? I have used gel-like forms, that come in a tube or pumps as a malt. You must place this gel on your finger or apply it to the cat's paws so the cat needs to lick it off to ingest the product. I had used these products for awhile, and my cat got to the point that he simply refused to take it anymore!
Now that I have found Pounce Hairball Treatment, I see that it is very easy to use. You feed it to your cat routinely, just like you would original Pounce treats. My cat Dusty, loves the taste. They have ingredients in the gel center that start working right away, lubricating my cat's digestive track and allowing the hairball to pass painlessly and naturally.
It is recommended that you feed the quantity all at one time and in-between meals and without other foods. For adult cats, feed them 3-5 pieces once a day until hairball is eliminated. Then to prevent hairballs, for the adult cats, feed 3-5 pieces once or twice a week. Once my cat Dusty has his hairballs eliminated, I usually give him 3 pieces twice a week for prevent hairballs. If you have kittens over eight weeks of age, feed 3-5 pieces once or twice a week
Like any other medication, use only as directed. If your cat's symptoms persist, consult a veterinarian. Do not administer to kittens under eight weeks of age. Keep this and all medication out of the reach of children and other pets.
What ingredients are in Pounce Hairball treatment? Malt syrup, mineral oil, pregelatinized wheat flour, wheat flour, water, soy flour, beef, fructose, glycerine, animal digest, dried egg product, chicken meal, torula yeast, sugar, salt, dried cheddar cheese, phosphoric acid, gum arabic, chicken stock, potassium chloride, cellulose gum, potassium sorbate (preservative), titanium dioxide, calcium sulfate, red 40, BHA (preservative).
I had never realized that Pounce Hairball treatment was made by Heinz! They have a consumer phone line for questions at 1-800-252-7022. This product is made in the USA. The expiration date is stamped on the bottom of the round carton of hairball treatment. Pounce does have other types of cat treats and tartar control which I will not go into in the epinion.
All I can honestly say is that for $2.99, it is well worth the money to see my precious Dusty not coughing up hairballs! I have noticed that if I keep them too long, the pieces tend to get hard and my cat cannot chew them easily. So I would keep a close check on the expiration date and the freshness of the pieces that you give your cat. It works great for Dusty, I hope it will work for your precious cats also! Thanks!
