Pros:Strength, Castability, Durability, Price
Cons:Floats, Light weight, Not silent.
The Bottom Line: This braided line is incredible, super strong, easy to cast, and just all around awesome. I trust it to all of my tournament fishing.
I take my Tournament Bass Fishing very seriously. The competition is so high these days that in order to win, everything has to come together. You have to be able to pattern the fish, figure out what they are biting, catch them, and more importantly, you have to catch the big ones. It's hard enough to do the things I just mentioned and that goes without any equipment failures.

There is no room in competitive fishing for equipment failures and perhaps the most important aspect of your equipment and gear is the fishing line itself. Fishing lines have evolved light years just in the past few decades. At one time, everyone was throwing a mono-filament, and one size fit all. These days there are mono's, super mono's, fluorocarbons, and the ultimate in fishing lines, Braids. My favorite and most trusted braided fishing line is Power Pro. I use it exclusively as my go to braided line. I have never had a problem with it and trust it in all of my tournaments.
When I first started fishing braided line I tried some of the Fusion lines and some of the earlier braided lines and I didn't stick with it for very long. I had some very strange break offs, trouble with knots, and horror shows with backlashes. I was not impressed with the price or performance. But a handful of years ago I needed to get back into fishing braided line, the type of fisherman I was evolving into demanded it. It's nearly impossible to "frog" the thick stuff without it and the applications are numerous. So I started testing different brands, sizes, colors, and styles, and I really put them to the test, and the line that prevailed above all others was and is, Power Pro in 65 lb test.
What is it?:
It is a braided nylon line that is rounded and very strong. The 65-pound braid is the diameter of a 16-pound mono-filament. The advantage is in the strength at a much smaller size diameter.
Unlike many fishing lines, braided line is not "invisible". This line has a purpose, it is for power fishing, it can be used for power finesse fishing, but it is not made for super clear water and slow presentations.
The Power Pro Advantages:
Some of the advantages I have found using this line in this diameter are as follows. It is incredibly sensitive. When fishing on the bottom and using this braid, you feel every subtlety, every rock, every weed and more importantly, every bite. It is round and just big enough so it won't dig into your spool on a hook set or snag. This can be a real problem with super-lines and braids. You find out pretty quickly what a problem it can be on the next cast when the lures stops dead at the point where the line has dug into the reel. With the 65-pound Power Pro this virtually never happens. Another advantage is its strength. I have yet to part it on a fish and have straightened many jig hooks or treble hooks after pulling free from snags. You will straighten your hooks before breaking this line, even the Superline hooks offered by Gamakatsu and the Beast Hooks on the market from Owner. It is also incredibly easy to cast for distance as well as for accuracy. It has virtually no stretch at all, when you call on it for a hook set it is instantaneous.
This line is incredibly sensitive. I use it for flipping both in the north and south and feel everything from weeds to rocks to a sand bottom. Strikes are incredibly easy to feel. It allows me to easily discern what I am fishing for bottom structure. After fishing with it for some time and getting used to it, I can pretty much even figure the size of the fish from the bite and the information coming back up the line. It is that sensitive!
I am very pleased with the durability of this line. I primarily use it for frogging where line gets absolutely abused. I throw over logs and stumps, through the thickest vegetation, in the pads, over rocks, and anywhere I think there might be a fish and I can throw it there with complete confidence I will be able to bring back whatever I hook into. The only problem I see with the durability is it will fade in a lot of sunlight over the course of about 40 full days on the water. The dark green turns to light and it gets a little fuzzy. I find it to still hold its full strength but you lose a slight amount of casting distance and a slight amount of sensitivity. A couple things can be done to rectify this problem, as for the color, you can run a permanent marker down the line and it will quickly look like new. As for the fuzziness you can simply turn the line around on the spool and it will be like new again. This helps to defray the cost of it, basically getting two uses out of it. The old becomes the backing and the backing, which is like new, becomes the business end.
This is one aspect where this line really shines. It is awesome to cast. A lot of people worry that the 65 is too large a diameter to cast but trust me, you can bomb with it. With the right reel and rod, I can throw out an entire spool on my Revo SX when I am spooking. I can only guess that is is well over 200 feet, I have never measured but it is a bomb. It is super smooth for flipping, pitching and frogging. The only problem I have found is it is susceptible to the wind pushing it side to side, it is a light line and catches some air from the side. Casting into or with the wind doesn't seem to bother much but with any lure less than 1/2 ounce or a lure that catches a lot of wind to begin with, you will notice a side push with this line. Other than that, it cast great!
Power Pro offers this line in four different colors. White, Green, Yellow, and Red. I primarily stick with the green. For my applications the green is the best. I am throwing it into green vegetation either sub surface or on the surface and I do not think it makes a difference to the fish and appears to be part of the vegetation. I have also had success with it in open water applications as well both with moving lures and slower lures.
My favorite application for this line is for Frogging. I use a lot of Hollow Body Frogs and in order to frog like I need to, in the thickest stuff, I have to have a strong, non-stretching line. Power Pro definitely is the line for this application. Super strong, Easy to bomb long casts, Very Quick on a hook set, and rugged enough to pull any bucketmouth out of the slop. I also use it for flipping mats and thick vegetation where line visibility is not a factor but line strenght and stretch is very much so a factor. It is awesome for flipping. You feel the "thunk" even in the thickest mats and it increases you reaction time of both the hook set and shortens the time of the fight allowing the fisherman to "horse" the fish into the boat. I throw a lot of top water on it, preferably the Super Spook, I can make long bomb casts with the spook and hook up rather easily at any length cast. I use it jigging, spinner-baiting and especially buzz baiting. I only use it on my baitcasting equipment but I have friends and know of other fishermen who use it on their spinning gear and love it for its strength and castability.
This stuff is not cheap, as far as super braids go I think it is on the lower end of the price scale, what we can call affordable. To be honest I have been using the Power Pro as my braid exclusively for so long I don't know how it stacks up to the other braids in price, I don't really care because I know this stuff works for me, I have an incredible amount of confidence in it and have no reason to throw any other braid. I think the 300 yard spools are running around $30 now and the 1500 yard spools are running around $120. Don't let the price scare you if you are thinking about getting into braid. It pays for itself in tournament fishing for me, it last 10 times longer than mono and has many advantages over both mono and fluoro.
