When I got my iPhone 3G it took no time at all to realize a case or cover was something I needed immediately. So I bought one. It took me a little longer to realize that I really needed a screen protector, too. After a few minutes of research online (yeah, it was hardly exhaustive) I figured I would want an anti-glare protector and not a clear/crystal protector. Off to the Apple Store I went. Product Info For $15 plus tax I purchased the Power Support Anti-Glare Film Set for iPhone 3G. The set comes with two anti-glare films and one pre-installation film. Putting it on Almost a year after purchasing this set I'm on to the second of the two films that come in the Power Support Anti-Glare Film Set. I had to replace the first after my cat chewed the corner of my iPhone 3G. No need to call the animal cops on me, she got away with it (barely) and thanks to my Incase Protective Cover the only thing that ended up damaged was my Power Support Anti-Glare Film; which had puncture marks in it. When “installing” the film you’re supposed to start off with a clean screen (duh). Then you’re supposed to use the “pre-installation film” to get any lint or dust that may be left on your screen after cleaning. The “pre-installation film” is basically a big sticker that isn’t a sticker (it doesn’t leave adhesive on your phone). Don’t roll your eyes at this because seriously, if you don’t use it, you’ll wind up with noticeable pieces of lint under your screen film. So after that that you position the “anti-glare film” properly and use a credit card to smooth away any air bubbles. My second time around was more difficult than the first probably because I was so mad at my cat. A few small bubbles remained but they worked themselves out within days. Air bubbles are really not the biggest concern. The two main issues are: make sure there are no pieces of lint on your iPhone screen and make sure you position it correctly (there are holes cut out for the speaker and main menu button). It’s not difficult to install and if you purchase it at an Apple Store they’re more than happy to do it for you (though I chose to do it myself). My Experience Without a film over the screen of my iPhone 3G within minutes of use (or much, much less) the screen would become quite insanely disgusting. It would look like someone dipped their fingers in dirt, grime and Crisco prior to touching the screen. Smear city. Not only did it look very unappetizing but it also made things look cloudy on the screen. So, if you have an iPhone/iTouch a film for your screen is pretty much a necessity. I still see people who don’t have one and their screen looks so nasty I wonder how they can stand touching it and attempting to view things on it. I chose to get the Power Support Anti-Glare Film Set for iPhone 3G instead of a Crystal Film because I had noticed that under certain lights it was harder to see my iPhone 3G’s screen due to glare. Having the Power Support Anti-Glare Film over my screen does help with that a great deal. That doesn’t mean I never experience glare – for if I’m out in a bright sun, it’s definitely still there – but in my normal daily use my glare issues are now gone. I’m also happy that I no longer have to worry about the screen of my iPhone 3G becoming scratched. Let’s face it, the iPhone is so pricey, you want to keep it protected! Power Support Anti-Glare Film’s are really something. I can’t say fingerprints or other things don’t ever show up on it, but it’s pretty rare. When I do notice there is something visible on my screen film I use either a damp wipe or a damp cloth and simply clean it off. Should the film become very dirty they are made to be removed, washed and reapplied so unless your cat attempts to eat them or they become damaged in some other bizarre way, they will pretty much last the lifetime of your iPhone 3G. This is possible because the films stick to the screen not with an adhesive but from static cling. Which may make you wonder how well do they stay? Well, the films do not move around after being placed on the screen. They are there until you purposely remove them. All of this is very good news because honestly spending $15 for a film for your phone’s screen is not something most people are excited about. Cons? There are none for me. That said I know some people prefer the crystal as the anti-glare is not 100% clear. It’s got a strange matte like finish to it which I happen to like, but some may not. Basically If you are the owner of an iTouch, iPhone, iPhone 3G or iPhone 3Gs you really are going to need to invest in a film/screen protector. That or you’re going to be at a high risk for scratches as well as constantly cleaning your screen or you’ll be one of those people who walk around with a screen that looks like it may carry a handful of diseases. When purchasing a film for your screen make sure that screen is intended for whichever device you have. For instance, the iTouch film is not meant to be used on the iPhone 3G. However, the Power Support Anti-Glare Film Set for iPhone 3G does indeed also work for the iPhone 3Gs.
