kld718's Full Review: Power Bar Powerbar Proteinplus
I have tried a lot of nutritional bars lately even though I have heard a lot about the taste of some of them. But I like to try things myself and have been utterly disappointed with the taste of most bars...except for that of the Luna Bar and PowerBar Pria. I was willing to try this bar because I thought it would at least have an OK flavoring. Boy, was I wrong again...but I least I tried it and now know that this bar is not for me even though it is an excellent bar for after my workouts.

This bar also comes in sugar free and was one of the first flavors that I tried. My first was the Mocha Almond Fudge (sugar free) bar and the second was the Chocolate Peanut Butter. I originally thought that maybe I didnt like the first bar was because it was sugar free, so I attempted to eat another flavor that was not. I chose the peanut butter bar because I just love peanut butter! I was not happy with that one either.
Wrapped in a pretty blue, purple, and white package with the PowerBar insignia, this Sugar Free PowerBar Protein Plus bar really caught my eye. But then I guess that is what the packaging is supposed to do! This bar comes in the somewhat smaller 1.69 oz (48g) size and claims to be sugar free. I purchased this product for $1.59 at my local Target store, but I have seen them available in many other drug and food stores.
This bar is made up of Powerbars Trisource blend which includes whey, calcium caseinate and soy protein isolate. So obviously the bar is an excellent source of protein for any athlete as protein isolate is the more purer form of protein and the actual bar contains 24g of protein all-together.
~ Some Flavors ~ PowerBar Protein Plus:

~*~ My Thoughts ~*~ PowerBar claims that this bar is a tool for athletes to use along with a balanced diet to help achieve optimum performance. Well, let me tell you...this athlete did not achieve optimum performance with this bar. After I was able to choke down the actual bar, I felt more sick than anything. I am surprised that I made it through my ride without being sick all over the side of the road, let alone achieve optimum performance.PowerBar also recommends drinking an 8 oz. glass of water with consuming this bar. Heck, I had to drink about 16 oz. just to get rid of the sickening taste in my mouth!
I was impressed with the nutritional value of this bar...especially coming from PowerBar, but I just cannot recommend it, due to its taste. But if you can find yourself getting past that, then this is an excellent bar for you. This bar is definitely only for adults and I would not recommend any child consuming one of these.
Yes, this protein bar is convenient...along with tons of other bars out there. But does anything set it apart from any of the other bars? Well, beside the chalk taste that has this bar sitting right down by the Atkins Advantage bar? Absolutely nothing because I just could not get past the taste. Ugh! I tried the Mocha Almond Fudge bar and was disappointed at the non-fudge taste. It didnt taste as bad as chalk but it did have a fake, waxy taste to it. And it succeeded in leaving an aftertaste in my mouth, which I absolutely hate. But that it the price of consuming a product that contains soy and whey. The fudge did have a kind of chewy taste to it. I do have to admit that the bar did fill me up for awhile...but then again, that could have been because I didnt relish eating anything else while this lump of crud was in my stomach. And because I am never hungry after a hard workout. The Chocolate Peanut Butter bar produced the same results. Both the peanut butter and chocolate did not taste real at all.
But seriously, if you can get past the taste, this bar is a great combination of protein and carbohydrates, which will be a great help to your aching and tired muscles recover. The actual combination of protein and carbohydrates is a good thing. If I could manage to choke down two of these bars a day, I would have almost half of my required protein intake. As an athlete, my body requires more protein than a regular person that does not exercise, but I will have to find another means of getting that protein because I refuse to eat these bars again!
