Pros:Affordable, powerful enough for small game, dual ammo, scope mount
Cons:single load with pellets
The Bottom Line: I reccommend the Daisy Powerline 901 for novice use for targets and small game use.  Affordable and powerful for the cost level.

I purchased my Daisy Powerline 901 two months ago after a mishap in the garage claimed my 10 year old Powerline 856(a predecessor to the 901).  Having had so much luck with the Daisy Powerline series I felt no reason to stray.  It’s a better than moderately powered air rifle, for a better than moderate price.

The Powerline 901 comes as an all-black advanced-composite stock and forearm with a black rifled steel barrel.  In fact the only two things on the gun that are not all black are the red part of the safety switch and the TruGlo® fiber optic front sight.  The stock feels durable, and the motion of the pump is smooth and steady.  It has very little to no sideways movement and you can confidently pump quickly without feeling you may lose control.  The pump handle is also very ample in height which provides a great grip all while minimizing the chance of pinching you hand while pumping.  At just under 4lbs the powerline 901 has a good amount of weight to it, but not so much it is a burden.  In my mind it’s just enough to keep your shot steady, and know that it was built solid.

With a maximum muzzle velocity of 750 fps and the ability to mount a scope to its dovetail mounting feature, this gun also works effectively as a great gun for small game.  It is rated for game suck as squirrels or wild rabbits, and I would not imagine it could stop anything much bigger.  However, I hear that it is a highly effective weapon in the short range like a backyard garden or flowerbed.  But I wouldn’t know….right?

The Powerline 901 Multi-Pump Air Rifle is a Dual Ammo air rifle meaning it can shoot both BB or pellet ammo as long as it is .177 (4.5mm) caliber.  As far as accuracy and kill effectiveness, I have the best luck with the pellets; I typically use CopperHead .177 pointed head pellets due to the relative cost effectiveness and results.  The only drawback to the pellets with this air rifle is that is a one shot load.  You cannot load multiple pellets.  However the Powerline 901 can load multiple BB’s for more action packed target shooting.  With the ability to hold up to 50 BB’s, you can shoot your heart’s content before having to reload.

The Daisy Powerline 901 has a maximum distance of just under 300 yards or about 260 meters; however without a really nice scope and some really considerable skill, I estimate its effective range to be much much shorter than that.  Without a scope I can hit a milk jug 6-7 times out of 10 at 35 yards.  I tried to mount the Daisy 10x scope to it, but could never get it sited in correctly even though I have outfitted multiple firearms with scopes without a problem.  So I cannot attest to the effective range with a scope.  I can only tell you results will vary based on the scope used and the ability of the shooter.  The muzzle velocity measures in at about 750fps, however since this is a multi-pump air rifle, this can be lowered depending on how many pumps you use.  750 fps is the rating at the maximum 10 pump level.

All in all I am very pleased with the Daisy Powerline 901, and the Powerline air rifles.  They have proven to be durable, accurate, powerful, and affordable.  They are not the highest end air rifle you can buy, but you get a lot for what you pay for.  I would most recommend this air rifle for the novice shooter looking for a fun gun to shoot targets and small game.  I paid $60 plus tax at my local Bass Pro Shop, but have seen it anywhere from $50-$80 at other retailers.
