Pros: comfortable, easy ride
Cons: doesn't work the cardiovascular system well
The Bottom Line: This is a nice machine and works the leg muscles. Not great for the heart unless you are really pushing.

| jo.com's Full Review: Precor C846 Recumbent |
This is the 3rd aerobic piece of equipment I am reviewing for epinions. I'm not trying them all just to review them :) Actually my gym is having a contest and the more things you try, the more points you get.
This wasn't the first time I've been on the Precor recumbent bike, but it has been well over a year since I've tried it out. I liked it; but I didn't love it. That doesn't mean you won't.
I found the ride very, very comfortable. The seat was soft and even after 20+ minutes I was still comfortable. My back tends to get sore which is why I will only ride the recumbent - a great invention! The adjustments are great so you can sit as far away or as close as you need to. It has a lot of programs so you can gear your workout to what you feel like doing on a particular day.
On level 1, you get a nice, easy bike ride and if you keep increasing the intensity..it will get intense. BUT what gets intense, in my opinion,is the workout on your legs..nothing else.
I went to the bike immediately after 20 minutes on the stairmaster so I think I can compare them well. I did not get a good cardiovascular workout on the bike. Even at the highest intensity the only thing that happened was my legs were sore. I wasn't huffing and puffing, sweating or getting a fast heartbeat like I did on the stairstepper.
It is important to note; however, that in spite of the lack of huffing and puffing, I burnt only 15 fewer calories on the bike than on the stairstepper. That surprised me because I felt like I was not working as hard on the bike. Shows have exposed that these pieces of equipment are not accurate in their calorie count and that may be true, but I am looking at them relatively and comparing the two of them. Even if they are both inaccurate, I think it might be a relative inaccuracy and if so, then I burnt a lot of calories without a lot of expenditure.
I like feeling my heart speeding up, though. That is why I work my cardiovascular system and I just don't feel I got that with the Precor Bike.
