Cleaning up our flowerbeds from the ravages of winter is one of the best chores as it heralds the approach of spring and the awakening of all the sleepy color that bring so much life to the yard. While this is a great time spiritually, it also is the most opportune time of the year to get a headstart on the weeds that take a bloom off the gardening rose. Pre-emptive is the key word here and that can only mean one product, Preen Weed Preventer.

While it doesn't kill existing weeds, applying Preen Weed Preventer will stop weeds dead in their tracks for up to 90 days. Preen Weed Preventer creates a weed barrier of up to 1-2 inches below the surface of the soil, preventing germination of weeds. If you're mulching, it's recommended you apply directly to the mulch and water. After that, for best results, it's best to leave the soil or mulch untouched as raking or disturbing the surface could result in reduced effectiveness of your weed barrier.
Preen Weed Preventer can be used on flowers, vegetable gardens, ground cover, shrubs, trees and any bed where weeds can germinate. A simple sprinkling at the rate prescribed for your application is ample to ward off weed growth. Two to three applications will control weeds for all of the growing season making it a lot more tolerable to enjoy those beds, as opposed to cringing every time you see a bed that needs tending. Of course you need to check to see that weeds indigenous to your area are on the list of weeds affected, but I've been satisfied with the overall effectiveness of Preen Weed Preventer as it has dramatically reduced weeding in our beds for a number of years now. I do wish it would kill established weeds, but that would be a bit of ambitious thinking!
The one thing about Preen Weed Preventer that I get asked about most often is whether it will kill neighboring plantings. I can't say that I've personally experienced it but the instructions recommend you wash down any planting that have in contact with the product to prevent browning, advice that isn't lost on this gardener!
All things considered Preen Weed Preventer is a extraordinarily useful tool around the beds freeing you to just sit back and....enjoy!
