Pros: Good cast. Interesting idea for the plot.
Cons: Some inconsistencies. Things not fully explained. Failed to live up to an interesting plot idea.
The Bottom Line: Premonition wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be, but it was still entertaining for the most part.

| dragonfire88's Full Review: Premonition |
I have seen and enjoyed many of Sandra Bullock’s movies over the years. I have enjoyed her comedies more for the most part, but I am still usually willing to give her more serious movies a chance as well. Her newest movie, Premonition, was a more serious movie. Linda Hanson was going through her normal routine of household chores after taking her daughters to school when a police officer arrived to tell her that her husband Jim had been killed in a car accident the day before. Linda tried to deal with her grief and explain to Megan and Bridgette what had happened. Linda’s mother Joanne arrived to help with things. When Linda woke up the next morning, she was in her bed instead of on the couch where she had fallen asleep the night before. When she went downstairs, she found Jim in the kitchen finishing up his breakfast before heading off to work. Linda was confused, but brushed it off as just a bad dream. The next morning when Linda woke up, she was back in a world where Jim had died. She talked about how he wasn’t really dead, which greatly concerned her mother and best friend Annie. Linda struggled to figure out what was happening to her. Premonition was promoted as a suspenseful thriller. There were only a few suspenseful moments in the movie overall. I really didn’t think it was that suspenseful or that much of a thriller. The movie might have been a bit more suspenseful if a few things, especially one in particular, hadn’t been shown in the trailer or previews. I did feel the movie got predictable as it progressed. There was a little bit of mystery connected to what was going on with Linda but it wasn’t that strong. There really wasn’t a good explanation for exactly what had happened with Linda and I felt like there were still some unanswered questions when the movie ended. The previews I had seen for Premonition made it clear that something odd was going on with Linda. She seemed to be jumping back in forth in time or having elaborate visions or something. I did see a few interviews with Bullock discussing the movie and she clearly said that Linda was living days out of order. That did fit with what was shown even though there wasn’t any explanation for why it was happening. I had thought that maybe some kind of paranormal thing was going on. I’m still not completely sure it wasn’t something like that. There was just too much uncertainty for me and I left wondering what had happened. If there was any kind of indication about the true explanation, I missed it. Things were making sense and were easy for me to follow when Premonition was getting started. I was doing fine with keeping things straight even once Linda started bouncing around the days. For certain things I was left wondering for a little while until there was an explanation of some type. Viewers are introduced to things at the same time that Linda is, so they don’t know anything before she does. There were some inconsistencies concerning some things and exactly when they had happened in Linda’s week. Something that was rather important hadn’t happened yet on one day and then later in the movie, it was shown to have happened a few days earlier. One night, Linda left something in a specific spot, where she had found it in the morning several days later. The item seemed to be missing from that spot in the several days in between. I wasn’t sure if those things were plot holes or if there was supposed to be logical explanations for them. I also didn’t think it made sense that Linda still did a few things when she already knew that those things would lead to bad outcomes. Linda and Jim had been married for several years when the strange things started. Linda was devastated when she was told he had died and then greatly relieved when she believed it had just been a bad dream. It was clear that she still loved him even though they weren’t as passionate or affectionate with each other. There were a few sexual situations but no real sex scene even though things before and after when they would have had sex were shown. Jim was shown without his shirt once or twice and Linda also showed a bit of skin in a few scenes without being shown naked. Linda was the main character in Premonition even though she really wasn’t as developed as she could have been. She was a loving wife and mother who was struggling to deal with a very bizarre situation. It wasn’t said for sure, but it seemed like Linda didn’t work outside of the house. Sandra Bullock did the best she could with what she had to work with. Jim was very important to the plot even though he really wasn’t in much of the movie. Julian McMahon was fine in the part. Linda’s best friend Annie and her mother Joanne turned up briefly in a few scenes. I think Joanne was around a little bit more than Annie had been. Both women were trying to do what they could to help Linda and became very concerned when it seemed to them that Linda was acting very strange. Megan and Bridgette, Linda’s daughters, were in several of the scenes without really being developed. It was made clear that they had a loving relationship with their mother. Amber Valletta was in a couple of scenes as a woman that Jim worked with. A few other minor characters turned up in a couple of scenes without being developed at all. Main Cast Sandra Bullock - Linda Hanson Courtney Taylor Burness - Bridgette Hanson Nia Long - Annie Shyann McClure - Megan Hanson Julian McMahon - Jim Hanson Kate Nelligan - Joanne Amber Valletta - Claire Mennan Yapo - Director Premonition was a decent movie that I did enjoy overall even though it had some problems. It really wasn’t a suspenseful movie and it failed to live up to the potential of an interesting plot. I would have given this one two and a half stars if I had the option. Since I don’t, I rounded down to two because it just wasn’t good enough for three.
