I bought this at a local beach front store that specializes in outdoor furniture, and set it up on my balcony because in an apartment home, you have no personal yard. I have a Melrose Place view, so not only do I have serenity once in awhile, but I have a nice view among the tops of palm trees to boot.
Of course, all you need is enough room to place a 15 foot 3 ply cotton rope woven hammock either from tree to tree or if you have to purchase an additional hammock holder like I needed to. This is technically 6 feet, 10 inches long for the bed itself, and 5 feet, 5 inches wide. The total length, which includes the rope to hang it from both sides is 15 foot.
This can comfortably hold 3 people, up to 450 lbs. It is intertwined rope, so it is not as comfortable as a canvas hammock. It can twist and turn uncomfortably with little movement, so get in a position and try to stay there. It can be hard getting on without tipping it over, and hard to get up without it twisting. Have you ever seen the Three's Company episode when Jack Tripper went camping? Well, that is me, flipping it over when I don't heed my own warnings! I am a klutz, so prayerfully this won't happen to you!
There is 1,000 feet of rope that is used to mesh together this hammock bed with hand tied macramed bowline knots. It has two solid oak spreader bars that you slip the hammock through on either side, and they are very strong in holding and keeping even the bed, and helping with gentle swaying motion as you give yourself the feel of the ocean waves!
I haven't had to wash it or anything, but I do recommend because it is white, that you keep things like wine or colored drinks, even cola, away from it. I don't think you would want to wash and dry this, but you could use a sponge and OxyClean to dab if something does get spilt.
Overall, it does move and sway pretty well, and you may want to have a soft blanket if the rope knots bother you, and add a feather or contour pillow for miximum relaxation. I don't find a lot of time to chill out on mine, I usually do in the evening.
This is great to take camping with you, it rolls up easily, or to the beach if you are making a day/evening of it. I personally like straight bed hammocks better, now that I have used this, but it does look gorgeous, and it luxurious!!
