partyhat7's Full Review: Presto 04820 PopLite Popcorn Maker
I've had mine for 3 long years. What a lousy little machine to inflict upon lovers of air popped corn.
This thing blows popcorn all over the kitchen. When the cycle starts, it blows a generous amount of un-popped kernels into the bowl (that you place under the outlet to catch the popped kernels). Since the kernels are un-popped, they will often bounce out of the bowl, or miss the bowl entirely, and go all over the place. When the popcorn starts to pop, it about 80% of the kernels blow into the bowl. I usually have to pick the bowl up, hold it close to the outlet, and shift it to make sure the popcorn doesn't pile up and blow out. Make sure the bowl has a handle (maybe even use a pan), because it gets hot quickly. I often will shift the machine back to prevent un-popped kernels from escaping. The problem with that is if you don't monitor the machine, the popcorn jams up in the chute and can become burnt.
The final part of the cycle blows hot un-popped kernels into the bowl of already popped pop corn, which subsequently pop (explode) and blows popcorn from the bowl all over the place. When this thing is done, I have popcorn on the floor, in the sink, on the counter, everywhere.
The butter melting "feature" is lousy at best. The butter must be agitated (stirred) in the butter cup in order to melt entirely, because it sits upon the top of the chute. Then, you pour the contents of the removable butter cup onto the popcorn, which does not pour evenly and runs underneath the cup. If you replace the cup back into the top, the grease drips down into the machine. So you need to wipe it off every time you use it.
After a couple of uses, the sides of the clear plastic contract, and have to be carefully placed and positioned onto the machine, or else the popcorn will dislocated it. There is no on or off switch
