WHAT TYPE OF ROUTINE?
This workout is a combination of cardio, toning, and yoga. There are no crunches in this routine even though the routine is for your abdominals.
The instructor is Ellen Barrett who has training in yoga, Pilates and group exercise and is a certified fitness professional. Ellen advises to do the routine several times a week but not on consecutive days.
LEVEL OF USER EXPERIENCE
The workouts in FLAT BELLY WORKOUT! Are very easy to learn. There is a modifier, Annie in the group of three, including the instructor. So, you can be a beginner or an advanced exerciser.
The Cardio section is 20 minutes and broken down into three levels: Level One is the base level, Level Two adds powerful arms, Level Three contains Power Ups adding jumps and hops.
You will need a mat and some barbells in the Metabolism Boost segment which is 10 minutes. I found it to be challenging.
The Metabolism Boost
Plays the entire DVD.
There is a good warm up.
Three levels that slowly increase in intensity.
THE METABOLISM BOOST
Uses dumbbells and a mat and is a challenging workout.
Good stretch routine. Yoga is included in this workout routine because Ellen says it combats stress which contributes to belly fat.
Good cool down.
The Bonus is the all about the Flat Belly Diet! This is a book that you may buy separately that is a science-based eating plan created by Prevention Editor-in-Chief Liz Vaccariello and Nutrition Director Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD.
THE CAMERA WORK
The camera work is good.
IS THE ROUTINE SAFE?
The routine is safe as long as you follow the instructions.
The music is interesting. In parts it sounds like Vietnamese or Cambodian music, (similar to some of Sting's music); other parts sound Oriental, a Kabuki sound. Still other parts sound Indian. I loved the idea. It is certainly much better than some of the so-called music I've heard on other workout programs, that's for sure! I'm always complaining about their music! I could really get used to foreign music in workout DVDs! Bring ‘em on!
Brief interviews with women who have been on the Flat Belly Diet and who have lost inches and weight.
DID I LIKE IT?
I loved it! When I previewed this workout DVD, I wasn't that impressed and I thought it would be too easy. However, when I did the entire 40-minute routine: the Warm Up, the Cardio Intervals, the Metabolism Boost, Yoga, and the Cool Down, I had worked up a sweat. It was more challenging than I first realized.
There were a lot of squats in this routine but no Sumo squats as in
The Science of Fitness - I Want That Body!
FLAT BELLY WORKOUT! is a fun routine. The instructor Ellen Barrett cues well. The moves are very easy to learn if you already have some exercise experience. It may even be easy to learn if you have none. All the exercises were at a good pace. Ellen reminds you frequently to pull in your abs. She is an excellent instructor. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire routine even though I'm not a big fan of Yoga. I will definitely be using this workout again.
