| nancy35c's Full Review: Prilosec OTC Acid Reducer, Delayed-Release Tablets |
I have had an acid reflux condition for about 7 years now. I was diagnosed by a doctor with the condition, and unfortunately it is chronic. This is one of the most uncomfortable conditions you can have, especially when you have a severe case of it, like I do, meaning I get very bad heartburn that burns my chest SO badly I feel like my chest is totally on fire, I also get very bad cases of indigestion with terrible uncontrollable burping, as well as difficulty swallowing. It really is an unfortunate, inconvenient and painful condition, unless it is treated on a daily basis.
Needless to say, I have tried many, many medications to try and control my acid reflux, including acid blockers ans acid reducers such as Pepcid, Zantac, Tagamet, Axid, store brands- you name it. Most of them worked okay, fairly well, just so-so, you see I would still get bouts of burping and pretty bad heartburn at times, especially after eating something with tomato sauce or after drinking coffee.
I kept wondering- would I ever find total acid reflux relief? Then along came Prilosec OTC and it has been a miracle drug for me. I just take 1 pill every 24 hours and my acid is totally under control. I have to take it like clock-work though - I cannot forgot to take one or wait longer than 24 hours, or I will be in discomfort. That is the thing about Prilosec- you must take it ON TIME for it to do its job properly! One other thing is that you have to take about 3 consecutive pills in order for it to start working- so don't expect relief with your very first pill- it isn't like Pepcid or Mylanta- in that way. It seems your body has to get used to it, then it starts to kick in. It does give great relief though and peace of mind, especially when you are going out to eat or somewhere away from home- knowing that you won't get an attack.
I do find Prilosec a bit on the expensive side - it comes to about .75 a pill, but for the amount of relief and peace of mind it gives, it is well wort the money! I do always try to use a coupon though when I purchase it - such as the one that appears in the Sunday paper about once a month I highly recommend Prilosec OTC for the relief of acid reflux- Thank Goodness Proctor & Gamble makes this medicine.
