I had received mixed advise on whether or not to get a wipe warmer. I decided that I wanted to give it a try so I went ahead and put it on my gift registry. I am glad that I did. In my opinion, having a wipe warmer has made diaper changes much easier and much nicer for my son and myself alike.

The Ultimate Wipes Warmers is made of thick, sturdy plastic. It is easy to clean and wipe off. The lid on the top can be opened two different ways. First off, the entire lid lifts back so that you can refill the wipe warmer. Secondly, a smaller latched lit can be opened. This is where the wipes feed through. The latched lid opens via a button on the front and easily snaps back shut when not in use.

The wipe warmer is designed so that the wipes will feed through the smaller opening in the top one at a time. In my experience this feature works fairly well. I use Huggies brand wipes, which are all hooked together somewhat like paper towels. Most of the time these feed thought the wipe warmer just fine, but occasionally after tearing one off the rest will fall back down and I will have to re-feed the next one through. A little annoying, but not the end of the world.

The front of the wipe warmer has a dim green light, which stays lit to indicate power. The wipe warmer must be plugged into an electrical outlet at all times to maintain its warmth. The cord can be plugged and unplugged from the back of the unit. Personally I think the cord could be a little longer… It is only about 4 feet or so, which does not leave you a whole lot of choice as to where your changing table must be positioned.

There is sponge pad of sorts that must be placed in the bottom of the wipe warmer underneath the wipes. I think this is to help distribute the heat more evenly and keep the bottom wipes from becoming overly warm. You have to keep water in the wipe warmer at all times (about a cup). This is to keep the wipes moist and it also helps with the distribution of heat. The instructions advise using distilled water only. I only followed this direction a couple of times then I just started using the water form my tap (which does go through a Brita filter).

The wipe warmer holds about half a wipe box full. For some people I suppose this could be a little annoying. I personally purchase my wipes bulk from Costco (seeing as I don’t need the plastic wipe boxes) so I just fill as I need. If you overfill the wipe warmer the lid on the top doesn’t want to stay shut and the wipes don’t feed through as well.

The wipe warmer keeps the wipes at a nice, luke warm temperature. When you first add wipes and water it takes about 6 hours to fully heat everything up. A little trick I have learned is to add slightly warm water when refilling, this way it does not take as long to adjust.

As a newborn especially, I know my son appreciated and liked the warm wipes. I mean who wants a cold wet wipe smeared on their bottom? Even now, at a year and a half we still have the wipe warmer set up. He could of course better handle regular room temperature wipes but personally I like to use the warm wet ones instead. Because of the water that you have to keep in the warmer, the wipes come out a lot more moist than if they were kept in the regular plastic containers. In my experience the warmer, wetter wipes do a better job of cleaning dirty behinds.

I think a wipe warmer makes diaper changes more pleasant for baby and parent alike. The Ultimate Wipes Warmer has worked great for me and I will continue to use it through my next child. It has held up well so far and I expect to get a lot more wipe mileage out of it.
