Along the road toward attempting to find a skin care product that would clear my acne-afflicted skin, I tried many facial cleansers. The varieties included expensive upscale retail store brands, exclusive direct-market products, and varying cost frames of discount store products.
While there were several that I liked, even more that I didn't care for, it was one cleanser, that combined with the other components of the skin-care regimen, that I reaped the most benefit from. This cleanser is Proactiv Solution Renewing Cleanser.
Reserved for those with acne-afflicted skin, available online or by mail order, and powered with an active ingredient of 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, this cleanser has helped my skin return to smooth appearing non-acne ridden bliss. I recommend Proactiv Solution Renewing Cleanser for those suffering from mild to moderate acne challenges.
Two Stanford-trained dermatologists, Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields created Proactiv Solution. This cleanser, one of several Proactiv products, retails for approximately $16.00 for the 4 oz bottle or can be purchased within various kit options. Although this cleanser can be purchased seperately I strongly recommend using the Basic 3-Step System which includes the Renewing Cleanser, Revitalizing Toner, and the Repairing Lotion. I have purchased it both solo and kit-inclusive but always use the cleanser in conjunction with the Toner and Lotion. It is likely that you will reap substantial savings when purchased within a kit option.
The 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide in this cleanser is finely milled, and of prescription quality. This cleanser has a mild gritty texture and is oil-free. While the fragrance of this cleanser is calm, it does offer a slight medicine scent. I found this to be neither offensive nor preferred.
You are instructed to use the Proactiv Solution Renewing Cleanser morning and night. Directions tell us to place a small portion in the palm of our hands, apply to dampened skin, massage gently for approximately two minutes, rinse with warm water, and then pat dry; typical procedures for most cleansers. The slight grit of the cleanser offers a mild exfoiliating process, helping to remove dead skin cells. This was a welcomed action, especially during those initial days of attempting to get rid of the zit pack. We are instructed to follow with use of the toner, and warned to use a sunscreen when venturing outdoors. Additionally you are warned against allowing this cleanser to come in contact with clothing, the Benzoyl Peroxide has a bleaching effect.
It is my opinion that this cleanser is easy to use, product claims are true, and that it is an affordable option for those with acne-afflicted skin. I recommend this cleanser, but as mentioned, suggest using it along with the toner and lotion. My face is much healthier and in turn I am way happier.
