| nghiemr's Full Review: Proactive Solution Repairing Lotion |
The Repairing Lotion is the final step in the Proactiv Solution 3-Step system for blemish control. It is a product similar to the Oxy or Clearasil benzoyl peroxide medications found in drug stores, except more effective and pleasant for your skin. The Repairing Lotion is best used at night, after washing with the Renewing Cleanser (Step 1) and Revitalizing Toner (Step 2). Don’t be disappointed if you don’t see results overnight, but don’t be surprised if you do. When used consistently over time, you will begin to notice a positive difference in your skin, without appearing like you’ve been dousing your face in harsh chemicals.
Ingredients, Scent, Etc
The Repairing Lotion is a translucent white, creamy medication that comes in a 2 oz. squeeze bottle. It’s smell reminds me of Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder. The active ingredient in the Repairing Lotion is 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, which is a commonly used ingredient in acne treatments. The dermatologist I used to go to as a teenager prescribed a similar medication that I believe contained either 5% or 10% benzoyl peroxide. The high strength of benzoyl peroxide in the prescription-grade product actually did more harm than good, leaving my skin red and sensitive in the sun, so I believe 2.5% is a good percentage for most skin types that don’t have a severe case of acne.
How to Use
Allow your face to dry well after using the Revitalizing Toner, which may take a little bit of time to evaporate. Depending on the degree of acne you have, you may either want to apply a thin layer over your entire face, or dab the lotion over individual pimples. I tend to apply a thin layer, for preventive measures. Your face may begin to tingle or sting, so start off with a small amount until you become accustomed to it. Be careful not to get the medication on your hair, clothes, or bedding, because benzoyl peroxide is known to have a bleaching effect.
The Results
When I wake up in the morning after using the Repairing Lotion, my skin has a dewy layer of the lotion on it. When I’ve used brands like Oxy or Clearasil in the past, my skin was always left with a white, chalky layer, even if the product I applied was clear. With the Repairing Lotion, what goes on white actually stays on clear. Another benefit of this product is that, after using it, my skin feels more like I’ve applied a moisturizer than a medication. Instead of adding redness, it seems to actually balance out any discoloration in my complexion. I notice this particularly when I take the time to use all three of the Proactiv products in sequence on a daily basis.
Overall Impression of the Proactiv Solution 3-Step System
By now, if you’ve read all three of my reviews on Proactiv, you should have a good idea about what kind of products they are, and if they seem to be the right ones for you. I have been purchasing the Proactiv 3-piece kit by mail for almost a year, and I intend to continue using them. I used to think $50 was a lot to pay, but now that I know they work for me, I have very little qualms about spending that much every three months. What I do hate about using Proactiv is that the bottles are not properly sized to all be generally used up at the same time before the next shipment comes. Among the three products in the kit, I use the 4 oz. Renewing Cleanser the most, then the 2 oz. Repairing Lotion, and then the 4 oz. Revitalizing Toner. I now have four extra toners and lotions still sitting around, waiting to be used. Because of this, I plan to temporarily stop my shipments so I can play “catch up” in the meantime. Despite this, I believe Proactiv is an excellent product and will continue to recommend it to any one who needs a little help with their problem skin.
