| zarfkitty's Full Review: Proactive Solution Repairing Lotion |
Many, many epinions members have reviewed the Proactiv line, so I'd like to keep this as non-redundant as possible. I have had good results worth sharing with the epinions community:
I purchased my Proactiv products at a booth at my local shopping mall for $45, with the same money back guarantee given on the infomercial. I'm an "instant gratification" type of girl and I hate waiting for shipping. I've been watching the product for years, however, so I'm not sure my gratification was all that "instant."
My acne-fighting history includes all your garden variety drug store brands, plus Retin-A, topical antibiotics, systemic antibiotics, and Accutane. I have fought blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, pustules, and cysts. I have not had a cyst since taking Accutane two years ago, but all the other types of acne had returned soon after discontinuation of the drug.
Knowing that there was nothing "new" in the Proactiv line, I decided to give it a try anyway. Many people respond to more traditional treatments more readily after having taken Accutane.
This lotion is gentle compared to much of what is available in drugstores. I'm not sure I've even seen a drugstore brand this dilute. Its consistency is very rich, due to its silicone base, and it spreads very nicely. You'd think it had an oil base from the way it spreads, but it's oil-free. I can cover my entire face with a dot the size of a pea. It has a pleasant smell, however the smell of the medicine is evident. I use the lotion twice a day in combination with the cleanser and toner. It pairs well with Purpose sunscreen for moisturizing and protection, which I'd recommend daily.
It contains benzoyl peroxide 2.5% as its active ingredient and is capable of bleaching hair and fabric. I suggest securing your hair in a headband and undressing from the waist up until the Proactiv process is completed and your skin is dry. Although I believe it is a gentle lotion as medicated acne products go, I'd check it in a non-conspicuous area for a few days to see if you are sensitive to any of the ingredients or the fragrance.
I have kept a lesion count in my worst facial problem area (jawline) since beginning Proactiv and have seen a decrease in lesions by about 50% in 18 days.
Other benefits I have noticed include:
My pores in the T-zone appear smaller.
My skin is smoother and brighter.
The oiliness of my T-zone has decreased, although I am still shiny by lunchtime.
In my case, this medicine has been gentle enough to tolerate the consistency necessary for efficacy in an acne treatment program. My main problem with benzoyl peroxide medicines in the past has been their harshness.
I would recommend this lotion, in combination with the cleanser and toner, to anyone who is struggling with acne, even if they have tried prescription medications in the past. Especially if Accutane has been a prior treatment. Just remember to top it off with an oil-free moisturizer/sunscreen to prevent dry skin and protect against UV rays.
I wish I could afford to put this on from the waist up!
