elzora's Full Review: Procter & Gamble Crest Whitening Plus Scope Toothp...
There are so many toothpastes on the market these days, and when I buy it, I generally try to match a sale with a coupon. I don't like spending more than a buck on my toothpaste, and that was my final price on a tube of Crest Whitening Plus Scope Mint Fresh Striped toothpaste.
The Product
My tube was a large 8 ounce size, and the package states that it will strengthen tooth enamel, fight cavities, fight tartar, freshen breath, and whiten teeth by "gently removing surface stains" on teeth.
My Recommendation
I had been using a fluoride free all natural toothpaste, but was not very happy with it, as it didn't taste very good and it definitely didn't freshen my breath. I rationalized that fluoride probably won't hurt me since I am not swallowing the toothpaste. Anyway, I have been ill for a few days now, with a sore throat and ear ache. My mouth has had an awful taste in it, and I grabbed my tube of Crest Plus Scope and have been pleasantly surprised.
This toothpaste is a light green color with dark green stripes going through it. The product does smell a bit like Scope mouthwash, and it definitely freshens my breath.
My husband does not like gel toothpastes, he prefers the paste. Gels have a tendency to gunk up and clog the tube, but pastes we've used don't. Although this toothpaste is a paste, it has a slightly different feel than the original Crest paste (the white colored version).
As soon as I started brushing my teeth with this paste, I noticed immediately the fresh sensation, it even gave my clogged sinus's a bit of a lift. The entire time I brush with Crest Plus Scope I get the minty fresh sensation of eating a peppermint patty. Not only that, but the product actually keeps my breath fresh for several hours.
What's In It That Whitens?
This is a fluoride toothpaste, it contains 0.243% of sodium fluoride, and the active ingredients are sorbitol, water, hydrated silica (I believe this is the whitening agent, as silica is used in powdered cleansers), tetrasodium pyrophosphate flavor, sodium lauryl sulfate, disodium pyrophosphate, alcohol, xanthan gum, sodium saccharin, glycerin, carbomer 956, poloxamer 407, polysorbate 80, sodium benzoate, cetylpyridinium chloride, benzoic acid, titanium dioxide, blue 1, yellow 5.
Closing Thoughts
I haven't used Crest Plus Scope long enough to tell you if it will actually whiten my teeth as it claims to, but I don't have high expectations. I have used many "whitening" toothpastes, from all of the major brands, and none of them have really whitened my teeth.
My problem is that I do drink a lot of coffee and herbal tea, which may stain my teeth, but my experience is these whitening pastes are disappointing. If I have a positive experience with this one, I will definitely update my review!
To conclude, I really like Crest Plus Scope, as a big part of brushing my teeth is not only to clean by teeth and tongue, but to freshen my breath, and this product does that in spades!
I even like the screw off cap, as I find they don't get gunked up with dried on toothpaste as much as the flip top caps do. Overall, I give this product 4 out of 5 stars.
