Pros: good chopping, easy to clean
Cons: small size
Early on in our marriage a family member purchased this Hamilton Beach Food Chopper 72500 1.5 Cups Food Processor for us ... which we affectionately call our "mini chopper." Having just two people in the house at the time our family felt we had a need for a processor, but a small one that fit into our tiny kitchen.
Each time we've moved, we've carried this mini chopper with us. And each time we moved we added one mroe member to our family .. and now we are in a family of 5!
What this Hamilton Beach Food Chopper 72500 1.5 Cups Food Processor does it does well. This food processor is a small, white plug in unit. It has a very small base, and a small 1.5 cup. The blades are small and the entire cup area is a small plastic cylinder. This makes the unit very easy to use and extremely easy to put together. The blades seem less scary maybe because they are so compact. The entire unit takes up a tiny amount of space on a countertop, though we usually store ours with other kitchen appliances in a cabinet underneath.
It's chopping is basic and doesn't have speeds or levels. Still you can visually see into the small cup and tell when most foods are chopped to the level you need.
For such a small unit it has a small, effective motor as well. It really does chop well, though it doesn't work lightning fast. When finished chopping it is fairly easy to remove the chopped food. Some times we need to use a small, soft spatula to scrape the sides depending on the food we are chopping. Clean up is a breeze - and we always handwash the pieces. (as we don't have a dishwasher, and either way we'd be most likely to hand wash something with this type of blades and plastic) Again, we've owned this for a number of years and still use it - so I'd say it's great for lasting durability as well.
My overall problem with this appliance (well mini appliance) is it's size. It's great I feel for a single person, or a small couple. It's perfect for some smaller portioned dips and sauces. But we notice more and more that, as our family grows, so does our food prep and meals. One meal that I make is corn chowder and the recipe calls for chopping half of the corn. When I use the Hamilton Beach Food Chopper 72500 1.5 Cups Food Processor I have to chop this corn in 2-3 different "loads" in order to make the meal. Eventually we purchased a family sized blender, and this mini chopper has remained in the bottom cupboard more and more.
Another possible problem is that, due to its small size, you may need to cut food items fairly small before they will fit into the 1.5 cup portion of the chopper! Things like tomatoes or corn are a better fit, where larger onion pieces often have to be cut fairly small first. This can prove to be a hassle.
Overall, I feel the Hamilton Beach Food Chopper 72500 1.5 Cups Food Processor is a good, mini sized chopper that performs well and serves a basic need. Good for small meals and needs.
