Pros: Simplistic, Inexpensive, Durable
Cons: Plastic on Swing-away basket is discolored.
Nothing fancy but it gets the job done! The job is coffee making and the product is the Proctor Silex Morning Maker Coffeemaker 42301. Although this small appliance doesnt make my morning I certainly realize that many people arent worth a hoot until theyve had that morning cup of coffee, so I imagine that principle is where the name birthed.
Within our home it is my hubby that is the coffee drinker and when it comes to coffee makers he likes it simple. Hence the reasoning for the inexpensive Silex with no frills, but ability to provide the caffeine inclusive cup of hot stuff. He states the taste is comparable to other 'more expensive models' and that he really likes the simplistic nature of this coffee maker.
This coffee maker was a mere $10.00 okay perhaps slightly more with tax, but you get the idea. It has a rather utilitarian appearance, yet isnt offensive to the eye (except when he fails to clean the splatters off the unit). It stands 11 3/8 tall, is 9 deep and 6 ? wide. When viewing the unit from the front you are looking at the carafe, the swing-away filter basket and the base of the unit. The carafe facilitates from 2 to 12 cups of liquid.
The Proctor Silex Morning Maker Coffeemaker 42301 will prepare 2 to 12 cups of hot beverages that require water and either coffee grinds, powder mix, mix granules, or tea.
For coffee preparation you will place a disposable paper filter inside of the swing-away filter basket (or you can use one of the non-disposable filter alternatives). The instructions with the unit request for 1 level scoop of coffee per cup desired, however we use 1 scoop for 2 cups. After the coffee is placed into the basket, close the basket holder. You will now put the appropriate amount of water into the carafe the side of the carafe has level markings at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 cups. This will be poured in to the reservoir that is located at the top rear of the unit. To the right of the maker you will see a view window with markings at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 cups. Within this window is a red bead that sets atop the water, allowing you to know precisely how much water is placed in the unit. The carafe is now sat onto the hot plate and you can switch the maker on via the orange flip switch located to the left (set back) front of the Proctor Silex Morning Maker Coffeemaker 42301. Prior to turning the maker on you can adjust brew strength via the brew selector lever at the top of the swing-away basket.
If you just cant wait for the entire pot to complete that is okay. The Proctor Silex Morning Maker Coffeemaker 42301 has an auto pause n serve. In theory this means that when the carafe is removed during the brew process, the brew process is halted until the carafe is repositioned. In actuality this sort of works. By this I mean that although the brewing process is paused, there is spillage onto the hot plate. So I wouldnt make a habit of relying on this feature. The entire brewing process takes approximately 3 12 minutes.
One element that is really nice about the carafe is the hinged lid with knuckle guard. When you grasp the handle there is a cool to the touch portion between your knuckles and the carafe. The swing-away basket, hinged lid, and carafe remove and are top rack dishwasher safe.
For hot drink mix preparation the mix is placed into the carafe after putting the desired liquid amount into the reservoir. When preparing tea you will place one level teaspoon of tea into the filter - per cup desired. You can also used tea bags.
The Proctor Silex Morning Maker Coffeemaker 42301 meets our coffee maker needs. My only challenge with this Silex is that the white plastic on the front of the swing-away basket is discolored. It was inexpensive, doesnt offer unnecessary features, and is easy to clean, simple to use, and is a recommended purchase.
Those darn H&G rascals (CLs Pogomom and Ladysmom) have black-mailed us book folk (Top Reviewers & Advisors) by requiring ransom (reviews) if we desire to see a stop put to the imprisonment and unworthy treatment of the ep kids (+, -, =, !). We are determined to conquer the demand, rescue the ep Kids and snuggle back in the corner with our books.
