Pull Ups Flushable Wipes

Written: Mar 04 '05 (Updated Apr 01 '09)
Pros:Flushable, evenly moist throughout the entire box, nice size for toddlers.
Cons:Too perfumy for me, and I'm afraid flushing is not good for my septic.
The Bottom Line: For those not on septic systems, GO FOR IT!

I have done home daycare for 25 years, and believe me when I say that I've tried about every kind of "wipe" on the market! Pull-Ups Just For Kids Wipes, made by Kimberly-Clark, are a wonderful product!

Product Description

If you have never seen these in the stores, the container is quite a bit smaller than the standard diaper wipes, measuring only 6" x 3.75" and stands only 2.5" high. They come in bright kid friendly colors - lime green, pink, blue, orange and purple.

The folded size of the wipes are 3.5" x 4.5", and when opened up they measure 5.5" x 6.25". They are folded in a way that allows the kids to pick up one at a time.

Just-For-Kids are just the right thickness, not too thick (or else they would not break down in your septic) but yet thick enough that they don't come apart while being used. I took one and pulled on it quite hard, I even tried to rip it - unsuccessfully. They are not whimpy!

Some wipes that I have used are either too dry or overly wet, but these Just For Kids wipes are evenly moistened all the way through. They are also nice and soft!

The plastic box shuts tight enough to keep the wipes from drying out, but it's also easy for little hands to open. The container size is a perfect size to keep on the back of the toilet (or to put in a diaper bag or glove box of your car!).

Use For Potty Training

While these wipes seem to be aimed at children in the potty training stages, they can be used for older children who don't always have their "cleaning up" skills down pat.

There have been times when I've had little ones almost flood my toilet with toilet paper! Ever happen to you? Not a fun thing to deal with. Children go through that transitional period when they are trying to be independent, and want to do it all by themselves. At the same time, they haven't developed their personal hygiene skills well enough to accomplish this task.

These wipes definately get the kiddies tushies much cleaner than regular toilet paper. The only concern I have is putting them down the toilet! We are on a septic system and after spending thousands of dollars 5 years ago to put in a new leech field, I cannot bring myself to flush them. And if I did, I would have concerns that the kids may flush too many at once!

Just-For-Kids compared to Other Brands

Price wise, most of these flushable wipes are pretty comparable in price, but I always buy what is on sale.
While I don't particularly care for the perfumy odor in this brand, I do prefer it to the Tidy Tykes wipes. The Pull-Ups brand is alcohol free, and contains Aloe, but I like the fact that the Wet Ones wipes contain Witch Hazel, an ingredient that is very soothing to chapped or inflamed skin.

I have not noticed any rash or irritation associated with using these Pull Ups wipes.

Not a Replacement for Diaper Wipes

I have a child who is having a hard time with his bowel movements. He always has a smear in his underwear (I'm sure all you moms know what I am talking about). I have found that while he likes these Just For Kids wipes, they are too small for him. And because cleaning him up always takes quite a few wipes, it is cheaper to use the older generic diaper wipes.

Not "Just For Kids"

These wipes are great for older kids, as I said earlier, and they are also nice for adults to use on occasion. Especially for women who are in their "time of the month". If you are dealing with hemmorhoids these wipes are a bit gentler than the wipes made specifically for that problem. I do feel that I need to wipe with regular TP afterward though, to have that "dry" feeling.

Cost

I feel these wipes are a luxury in my daycare, and am still in the process of trying different brands. If I really wanted to have smaller wipes and wanted to save a bundle, I could simply cut the larger wipes in half and add them to the Just For Kids brightly colored container. I doubt the kids would know the difference. I paid nearly $3.00 for 50 Just-For-Kids wipes, and can pick up the Kirkland brand wipes, cut them in half and have about 1150 wipes for $16.00. You do the math!

Final Thoughts

I can imagine how these Pull-Ups Just For Kids wipes would be very helpful for some people. They are durable, moist without being saturated, and are the right size for little hands. Personally, I cannot justify spending a lot more for them when I am not going to flush them down the toilet! For those people who are not on a septic system, I recommend them whole heartedly! Why mess with the germs associated with regular wipes when you can simply flush these away?
