Puma Makes a BASKETBALL Shoe?

Pros: Well-cushioned, durable shoe.
Cons: Not as good as their soccer cleats, but a solid effort.
The Bottom Line: Puma VI Mid is a great shoe with outstanding durability. Puma definitely deserves more exposure for their fine products to get them a better niche in the industry!

Puma is one of the few athletic shoe companies that can dominate the European market, due largely to their long-established presence on the soccer pitch. They are working hard to get a foothold in the U.S., but it is a tough sell in a world ruled by the big boys of American sports footwear, such as Nike. This is unfortunate, because Puma makes some really fine shoes. The VI Mid is no exception.
I have found the VI Mid to offer excellent cushioning, actually far superior to the more expensive Nike kicks I had been playing in before. Unfortunately, (because I am a bit of a cheap weasel), I would only consider the Pumas which were on sale, and I ended up with a pair in a strange color combo (blue and gold... but they do match my US Navy shorts). I would have preferred them in black and white, but like I said, I can be cheap. =)
The ankle support of the VI Mid is excellent. I sometimes feel the need to wear an ankle brace from an old injury, and I have not worn the thing since I got these Pumas. Of course, that will vary from person to person and the extent of one's injury, but that has been my individual experience.
In addition, the VI Mid is more durable than almost every other pair of basketball shoes I have owned... far more durable than either of my pairs of Nikes, or even my old favorite Adidas.
If you are not afraid to branch out from the old stand-bys that everyone wears at the gym, I encourage you to give Puma a try. They will not disappoint, and I believe that even their top-of-the-line shoe is priced well under 100 bucks. Compare that to the astronomical prices of a lesser shoe (such as Nike), and you will see that Puma is a great deal.
Heck, millions of Europeans can't ALL be wrong!
