dreamyone's Full Review: Pure Digital Flip Mino F360 Flash Media Camcorder
We're into photography at our house. We have a great camcorder, which is actually relatively small and takes great pictures. But even small camcorders are sometimes difficult to carry around. The Flip Mino caught our attention after it was positively reviewed by a major newspaper. I bought ours last year, but we didn't start using it much until this spring. I highly recommend it. Of course, going into this, you have to be aware that you're not going to get the bells and whistles that you get on a full feature camcorder, but hey, this thing is itsy-bitsy (about the size of a cell phone) and can go mostly anywhere. Other point is that while thiefs are looking for bigger camcorders to steal, this often goes unnoticed - you could hide it in a shoe or inside a book and leave it on a beach to go swimming. It fits in the cell phone pocket of my purse along with the cell phone.
First up is the size. It's tiny and for it's size it does an amazing job taking videos. The sound is pretty decent. We've taken it to a few concerts and the quality of the recordings was pretty good, although obviously not professional quality. We've taken it to the beach, and as mentioned above, felt comfortable leaving it hidden inside a shoe. Normally, one of us would stay out of the water guarding the cameras - this time everyone went in. Also because of the price, it's not the end of the earth if it did get stolen. I'd feel a lot worse if our bigger camcorder got stolen where the extra battery for that other camera cost more than the Flip.
My sons took the Flip to the prom and it fit easily inside a pocket. They would not have felt comfortable carrying around a regular camcorder, even a small one. Since it probably only weighs a few ounces, it's not an issue to carry it. (It can fit in jeans pockets, for example). We took it to Disney World and to Universal. Because it fits in a pocket, we didn't have to worry about carrying something additional when we needed to use both hands for a ride or activity. In places where Universal didn't allow us to carry our purses, it easily fit into a pocket so we didn't have to check it into a locker. I keep it inside my purse at all times these days - you never know when a good picture might come your way. (It has a nice protective fabric case).
The quality is more than sufficient for such a little camcorder. What's really neat is that it does NOT even require a USB cord or electrical cord. It has a hidden "plug" that allows the entire Flip to plug right into your computer or laptop and download directly. And best of all, while it's downloading, it's also recharging. Both activities are very quick. It seems to hold a charge for a very long time, too, because in between uses we've never had to recharge it.
Second, it's so easy to use. Point and aim and you're all set. There's not more I can say about that b ecause there's not much to do except aiming at the action. The quality of the pictures is good. Like anything else, though, you should practice with it a few times before using it for something important.
This is a really neat little fun gadget. We've really enjoyed it. (No offense to our bigger full featured camcorder, but we've been taking this more and more often). We recommend it to everyone. Even though it doesn't have all the features of the full size camcorder, it gets taken everywhere because of the tiny size.
