| kparsons13's Full Review: Second Nature Purina Secondnature Standard Dog Lit... |
Before I start in about the Second Nature Dog Litter Pan and Second Nature Dog Litter produced by Purina, there is some background information that I need to let you know about my dog.
My dogs name is Casey and he is an adult dog with three legs as that was the way he was born. I would say he is a medium sized dog as he is a mixed breed, but the Labrador is apparent in his face and coat. Casey is a wonderful dog but he has only been with me since he was a puppy and he is a mommas boy. Casey is also extremely shy when it comes to people and the weather.
Since he has this shyness about him it interrupts his going to the bathroom outside at times. If he is getting ready for the #2 pooh, and he hears something, he runs to the door. It can be quite annoying to my fiancé since I am never on dog duty. There are also moments where he goes to the bathroom and you think he is done. Well on several occasions he hasnt been done. I will go to a doctors appointment with my fiancé and we come home to a pile of pooh which is dreadful on an ivory carpet. It was always on the same area as well which seemed to be odd.
Here is where the Second Nature Dog Litter Pan walked into my life. It has been a life saver for me and Casey as well. He doesnt have to feel ashamed that he went in the house while I had to leave for the doctors office and I come home to a non-mess.
The Second Nature Dog Litter Pan comes in three sizes:
1) Toy Size 15 x 20 x 5 = $14.99
2) Minature Size 20 x 24 x 5 = $16.99
3) Standard Size 22 x 28 x 9 = $21.99
The Second Nature Litter Comes in two sizes:
1) 12 lbs at $6.99
2) 25 lbs at $12.99
The Standard Size pan is supposed to only be for a 35 lb dog as Casey is closer to the 50 lb mark but it still works. The website, www.doglitter.com, provided by Purina (www.purina.com) mentions using kiddy pools or something similar for larger dogs. They have not come out with anything larger than for a 35 lb dog. Casey has adapted very well.
The Second Nature Dog Litter Pan is made of durable and strong plastic which comes in tan and a light gray. It has a lip that hangs down for entrance and exit of the litter pan. It is very sturdy and you dont have to worry about it breaking.
The Second Nature Litter should be changed bi-monthly or as needed with new litter. When it has been used, all you need to do is remove that part of the litter and replenish it with more after the waste is disposed of. There is a fill line for you about 1.5 inches up from the bottom of the pan so you know how much litter to put in. It is recommended by Purina that the following amount of litter would be needed:
1) Toy Size = 1.5 lbs of litter
2) Miniature = 3.5 lbs of litter
3) Standard = 6.5 lbs of litter
I believe that the litter is decently priced for what you are getting in return.
With Casey being an adult size dog I worried about whether he would trainable to use the pan, but in the litter they give you a training guide that is helpful. The website (www.doglitter.com) is also supportive should you have further questions.
As for my cat, I think he just believes that we have lost our minds. Junior, my cat, has looked at it, smelled it and even touched it but that is about it. He doesnt want anything to do with it. Apparently according to Purina cats like sand and are prone to using that and will not try out the dog litter pan. So far, so good for us.
The Second Nature Dog Litter Pan is going to last for a long time in our household when we go out for errands or to doctors appointments. It was a creative design made by Purina and one that I commend them on. There are many people that I believe are going to benefit from the Second Nature Dog Litter Pan and the Second Nature Litter, just as much as we have. I never would have believed that Casey would take to it but seeing is believing. I highly recommend that you pick up the Second Nature Dog Litter Pan to prevent those accidents before they happen.
