Our furry family member, Shadow, is a fine connosieur of cat treats, even at the very young age of three - in human years, that is. Although we’ve tried many treats, Whisker Lickin’s Crunch Lovers treats in the Tuna flavor is always a favorite. And, since it’s a tartar controlling snack, it’s mom’s favorite choice too.
Purina’s Whisker Lickin’s Crunch Lovers treats come in a four ounce purple plastic tube with a pop off lid. The front wrapper depicts a spoiled-looking cat that better not be giving Shadow any ideas. The front mentions that these are tartar control snacks. The back, along with the nutritional information, gives instructions to feed your cat these snacks only as a tasty treat, and not as a meal replacement.
Whisker Lickin’s are full of healthy ingredients for your kitty! These include: Chicken meal, brewers rice, corn gluten meal, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), animal liver flavor, corn starch, powdered cellulose, fish, soybean hulls, malt extract, phosphoric acid, natural and artificial flavors, calcium carbonate, dried yeast, salt, choline chloride, added color (Red, 40, Yellow 5, Blue 2 and other color), tuna meal, taurine, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, Vitamin E supplement, niacin, manganese sulfate, citric acid, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Vitamin A supplement, calcium pantothenate, thiamine mononitrate, copper sulfate, riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, calcium iodate, BHA (a preservative), biotin, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), BHT (a preservative), sodium selenite. Some of these sound confusing, but our veterinarian has assured us both that this is a great, nutritious treat.
We’re very happy with the tartar control aspect of this snack. Shadow is always getting compliments on his (very sharp) teeth and healthy gums from the veterinarian at every visit. I am pretty sure that Whisker Lickin’s have something to do with this, as this is the only treat that Shadow eats.
Personally, I can’t speak for flavor, and since Shadow can’t speak I’ll have to interpret via what he actually chooses to eat. The other flavor available of Whisker Lickin’s Crunch Lovers is Chicken and Seafood, which he is definitely not a fan of, however the tuna flavor he devours in seconds. He also prefers these crunchies to the softer variety.
At $2.50 a container, these are affordable enough to buy all the time. One container lasts us between one and two months. Each individual piece is about the size of a dime, and a “snack” is about four to five treats. Overall it’s a great value.
All in all, Whisker Lickin’s Crunch Lovers treats make us a happy cat-owning family. Or family-owning cat household, depending on which side of the litter box you’re looking from. Shadow thinks your cat will agree too!
