This past weekend my daughter was helping me in the kitchen. For a special treat I decided to make some Jell-O for dinner. I’m not sure why Jell-O is such a big hit in this house, but … if I want to make my children smile at dinnertime … I just place a big bowl of Jell-O on the kitchen table, and viola … smiles galore!

It was while we were making this Jell-O together that I found myself thinking of the pros and cons of my Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (4-cup). Yes, I know it is sad, but I did find myself laying out this review in my mind while preparing this grand feast of Jell-O for my children! (Come on, like you have never done this?!) To make matters worse, I also used my Pyrex measuring cup the next morning while making pancakes for breakfast. Yes! It was time to write a review…
~ It’s the brand Pyrex … need I say more! ~
While I mentioned in my past review that cooking really isn’t my area of expertise, I have found that there are a few items that do make my job easier. And one of the first items that comes to my mind is the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (4-cup). While I have been married for over sixteen years, this Pyrex measuring cup is a new member of my household, having only been in my kitchen for nearly five years now. Let me state right here that if you are new to this thing called cooking … you will want one of these Pyrex measuring cups in you kitchen!
While the photo shown here on Epinions shows the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (4-cup) as an all clear glass with blue lettering, mine has bright red letters. These letters are very easy to see, even when I have contents inside the measuring cup. Why is this important to point out? I currently have another brand of measuring cup (2-cup) that is made of plastic. While it has served its purpose well over the years, I can no longer see those measurements on the bottom of the measuring cup. Yes, they have worn off, and for this cook … I need to see my measurements! Over the past couple of years I have not experienced any problems with the rubbing off of the measurements on my Pyrex measuring cup.
This product is sturdy! As I mentioned above, this Pyrex measuring cup is made out of glass and looks sturdy enough just by looking at in on the counter. While it is four inches in height, the base of the measuring cup is approximately five inches and it widens to almost nearly six inches at the top. Located on the one side of this measuring cup is a lip (made of the same glass with rounded edges) which allows you to easily remove your liquid contents. On the exact opposite corner is a handle (also made out glass and has rounded corners) that is approximately 3 Ľ inches in length, making it easy to hold the contents inside while pouring. As I read in other review of this same product, there is enough space for you to hold onto this handle with a hot pad, if needed.
One of the features I found that I enjoy the most (besides being able to clearly see my measurements) is that on one side of this measuring cup are the measurements we would use here in the United States. For example:
2 cups … 16 oz. … 2 cups
1 ˝ … … 1/3
1 cup … 8 oz. … 1 cup
There are certain recipes that when I read them, call for 8 ounces of this ingredient and another 24 ounces of another. I have found that for me, when I read a recipe that calls for these types of measurements, I don’t have to call my husband at work and ask him how many cups is 24 ounces? (Yes, I have done this before.) And have you ever wondered how many cups make a quart? Lucky for you, it is listed on this measuring cup. (The answer if 4-cups!)
On the opposite side of this cup is the measurements of the metric system. Little did I know that this would be of great assets to me one day! As if finding the ingredients to make dishes while living in Brazil wasn’t challenging enough … when I would try to convert a Brazilian recipe into English, I was so happy that I had my Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (4-cup). For example…
……….. 400 ml
300 ml ………..
………. 200 ml
My girlfriend from England so loved this Pyrex measuring cup that when I left Brazil to move back to the United States, I left one with her! She really loved this cup when trying to make her favorite American recipes with the non-metric measuring system.
Another bonus for those who do not like to hand wash your dishes. This Pyrex measuring cup is dishwasher safe. Yea! Now, isn’t that always music to your hears?
My only negative thought with this measuring cup…
Yes, there is only one, and … it may confuse some. Why? Because it is glass. But I thought that you liked the fact that it is glass! Yes, I do. My only concern comes to when I am cooking in the kitchen with my children. While making the Jell-O the other afternoon my daughter wanted to help pour in the water. (Just the cold water, I poured the hot water in first!) I find that I am extremely cautious when one of my children are using this measuring cup with the fear that they will drop it onto our ceramic floors.
~ You’re gonna love it! ~
With that said, I still have to give the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (4-cup) two thumbs up. I have found that this four-cup size has been a really great size to have in the kitchen. It is not too big to struggle searching for a spot to store this in my cupboards, and … it is big enough for most of my cooking jobs. It has handled hot contents as well as cold contents with great ease, and I find that it has been very easy to pour. Especially when I am pouring the liquid contents into my broccoli/cheese quiche recipe.
Pyrex is also a very well known name for quality. When I met my friend Sue in Brazil, she had a Pyrex measuring cup that was nearly twenty years old. And, it looked just like new!
All in all … my Pyrex measuring cup has made cooking just a bit easier for me. And I like that!
