**NOT JUST A MEASURING CUP**

Pros:Has many uses, big enough for larger measurements.
Cons:Only that it doesn't have 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 measurements.
The Bottom Line: This is a wonderful product, very useful and a must have for in any kitchen.

First let me say that I have not ever had a Pyrex product that I have not been totally satisfied with. I have had many, ranging from mixing bowls to measuring cups, from storage containers to kitchen gadgets. They were all great products. But I must say that the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), is one of my all time favorites.

The Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), is made of heat resistant glass which makes it able to be used in the microwave and your standard oven. It is a clear glass with the measurements printed clearly in a blue print (standard measurements on one side and metric on the other side), for easy reading.

Liquid measurements

There are several different usable measurements with this cup, ranging from:

2-4 CUPS
16-64 OUNCES
1 PINT-2 QUARTS
1/2 LITER-2 LITERS
(Having the measurements broken down into cups, ounces and such makes it easy to use the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), with any recipe since some recipes states the measurements differently, you don't have to convert anything, just follow what it says)

Regular standard uses

The Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), has many every day uses. It comes in handy to measure larger quantities of liquids than your standard 1 cup liquid measuring cup, when making things such as soups, pasta (if you are a go strictly by the directions person), when multiplying recipes for a larger amount of food such as cookies, foods made for a large group and so on. Great for measuring all liquids, milk, broth, water and so forth. But like my title says, this is not just a measuring cup. It makes a handy mixing bowl for things like pancake/waffle batter, cake mixes, cookie dough, pudding, jello, these are just a few to mention. With an 8CUP capacity, it is a great mixing bowl for all your standard size recipes and some that are larger, such as 2 boxes of pudding or jello instead of just 1.

Microwave uses

The Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups) is microwave safe. I have found several uses for this measuring cup in the microwave. Boiling water is one that I use quite often or at least I did when my children were younger. It came in handy when I needed smaller amounts of boiling water for things such as jello, icing, bouillon, instant potatoes and such. The main reason I use this method when possible is as a safety measure. Less chance of tiny hand grabbing hold of pot handle on the stove. Great for heating up canned soups for the whole family instead of on the stove top where boil overs are such a mess to clean up. (Why this instead of a plastic bowl? First of all most plastics tend to stain especially when heated with food in them and they often scorch the bowls as well making them unsightly after a while. Not the case with the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), it doesn't stain and it doesn't scorch.)

As a single working class mother, now that my children were old enough to watch after themselves while I worked, they often have to prepare meals for themselves. I mean, I can make the main items but who really likes heated up mashed potatoes? Not I! This makes it easy for the kids to do it themselves without having to use the stove (which I don't like them to have to do). With the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups) they can easily make soup, mashed potatoes, canned vegetables and many other food items.

The Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), also comes in handy for making cheese sauce and other such sauces in the microwave. Using this method rather than with a pan on the stove top, helps prevent scorching. My children love my "Velveeta" cheese sauce, all I have to do to make it is cut about half of a large block of "Velveeta" cheese into chunks and place it into my Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups), and pour about half a cup of milk into it and place it into the microwave one minute at a time, stirring after each minute. Continue using the one minute method till cheese is melted and is a creamy sauce. (Usually 3-5 1 minute times)You have yourself a great topping for mashed potatoes, vegetables, add mushrooms or what ever you like.

Okay, there you have some of the basic uses for the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups). But its uses don't end there.

As I said before, this product is also safe to place in your oven. "What on earth could you possibly use it in the oven for?" you ask. Well let me tell you what I use it for.

Uses in conventional oven

Okay, how many of you know a man, boss, co-worker, husband, etc...., who has an obsession with "boobs"? The bigger the better?

I happen to know many, it seems to be common these days. I love to bake and decorate cakes in all kinds of designs. Several years back a friend of mine wanted to give her boss a "boob" cake for his birthday and she asked me if I knew how to make one. I told her that I never made one but I would give it my best shot. I thought about making a sheet cake and putting small "boobs" on it but that didn't seem like it would do, so I racked my brain trying to figure out a way to make bigger "boobs". Going through my kitchen cupboards I came across my Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups) and an idea hit me. I knew it was supposedly safe to use in the oven, though I had never tried it, it was made with the same glass that my Pyrex baking dishes were, wasn't it? I figured I had nothing to lose so I would give a try, it was big enough and about the right shape.

It turned out to actually be quite simple. All you needed to do was mix 1 cake mix in a regular mixing bowl (because you need to grease and flour the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups)), pour it into the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups) and bake it just like you would a normal cake at the recommended temperature on the box or recipe for glass bakeware. The only difference is that you do need about 5 minutes more bake time. Allow the cake to cool completely before attempting to remove it. Once cooled, invert the first cake onto a foil or wax paper covered, platter, cutting board or what ever surface you are going to put the cake on to present it, then repeat the same steps to create your second cake "boob".

Once both cakes are ready, all that is left to do is apply the frosting. I usually use a butter cream frosting and use, cocoa, and red and/or yellow food coloring to tint the frosting to the tints needed for the color of flesh. (You can use more or less cocoa and food coloring depending on the desired color of flesh you want). They turned out great! Actually pretty realistic for a cake. The man who received them was quite impressed. I am no "boob" expert, but if I were to take a guess, I would say that this pair of "boobs", were about the equivalent of a triple D or so. Since then I have made this cake on several occasions.

Doll cakes are another cake that can be made. "Wilton" sells a pan used for this but unless you do it often, why spend the extra money on the specialty pan when you already have the Pyrex Glass Liquid Measuring Cup (8cups). To make this cake you use the same method but you only need one cake, then when cake is ready to finish you insert the upper body of a doll into the top of the cake. (Can be found in most craft stores or even the craft section of your local department store.) Then decorate as desired.

I have had this product for many years and it has seen many uses and is still alive and kicking. I don't know how much was paid for mine as it was a housewarming gift but I have seen it in stores for around $10-$12.

Interesting fact: Did you know that Pyrex, has been around since 1915?
