Pros: Does superb Meatloaf mean anything?
Cons: A little heavier than aluminum, but no reason not to get it.
The Bottom Line: All-in-all, I find this to be the best loaf pan at Wal-mart. It recieves my five out of five. Pitch the aluminum and stock up on some PYREX.

| shippo225's Full Review: Pyrex Loaf Pan (1.5-Qt.) |
PYREX, PYREX, PYREX!!!! :
.....I love PYREX dishes and cookware. PYREX is a brand as well known as Tupperware or Rubbermaid in the average kitchen. PYREX is a company recognized for it's superb quality oven and microwave dishes from hard, strong, tempered glass. It's time to ditch those pesky aluminum pans with their after-taste and squared off edges, and get a whole new inventory of PYREX dishes for your kitchen.
.....And among our wide display of PYREX measuring cups and cake pans, we have ourselves the little in-between one-and-a-half quart loaf pan. There's no way any kitchen could go without having one and not be annoyed. It is a very versatile and well-used piece of cookware amongst our kitchen. We use it to cook everything from Salmon to Lasagna.
What Does it Look Like?:
..It looks like a loaf pan, what's it supposed to look like? There isn't much to explaining what it looks like. But if you must know, I'll give the brief on it. The pan is about ten inches long, eleven and a half with the handles. It is constructed of all glass and shaped like the average aluminum pan, but with smooth, rounded edges inside for easier scooping of contents. There are two handles curving out of the top that allow for superior gripping when handling it from right out of the oven or for carrying a heavier load. On the bottom of the pan is the PRYEX brand name found on all of PYREX's great items, all items. It has the ID information (213-R), actual dimensions (8.5x4.5x2.5), capacity (1.5 quarts), Where it can and cannot be, and the location and company (Corning, NY, USA). This imformation it written in small, convex letters right out of the glass, which maintains it's thoroughly transparent constitution. And about describes everything about appearance.
In Action
..The PYREX Loaf pan is built entirely of tempered glass. It is able to withstand over four hundred degrees in the oven for long periods. However, it is not made to broiler-cook or for use on the stovetop. Is this is done, the glass will heat higher than it can withstand from direct heat and will shatter or blow apart once is reaches high enough temperatures.
..This pan is great for many things. We use it all the time for CHEF BOYARDEE lasagna. The box kit doesn't make much and it fits perfectly in the loaf pan. My mom and gram always make their Salmon Loaf, recipe at end, in the PYREX loaf pan. I don't like it, but they do. We don't make bread in it as others do, but it is designed to make great loafs of bread in it with nice rounded edges. The PYRES loaf pan does not leave any after-taste as an aluminum pan might. And unlike metal pans, you can see through this one. This is an excellent feature if you are one to make loaves of bread in it because you can see how the outside of the contents looks.
In The Sink:
.....The PYREX loaf pan beats all others when it comes to cleaning. After a meal, all you need to do is rinse it out and use some soap and a quick rub with a rag and it's good to go after one more rinse. Or you can cheat and use the dishwasher. But either way, it comes out spotless and clear. If there is anything that is hard to get off, just let it soak awhile in the sink. I always use brillo pads when washing pots and pans, so it's easier.
Storage In The Fridge And Freezer:
.....I'm one of those lazy people who doesn't like to put those leftovers in a Tupperware or Rubbermaid storage container. For, I'm to lazy to get one out, two, it saves me from having to wash it, and three, it saves me from dirtying another dish. The PYREX loaf pan is fridge and freezer safe, so saving leftovers in it is fine, though I don't know what you'd put in the freezer. Just put a piece of Saran wrap or a Saran Quick-cover and pop 'er right in the fridge. The next day, we just take it out and stick it in the mike or sit it on the counter and scoop out the stuff into a bowl and nuke it in the mike for a few minutes.
In The Cupboard:
.....When the PYREX loaf pan isn't in my oven, in my fridge or in the sink, it's probably in my cupboard (or in this case, my room for reviewing). From it's low profile design, it fits just about anywhere. We have a couple 9x13 PYREX oven pans in our couple and the loaf pans fits perfectly in it, adding just an inch or two in height. This makes it great for small apartments like my own where we are pressed for space (so pressed that we have to store all of our Tupperware and Rubbermaid in our dishwasher).
Glass Factors:
.....PYREX makes glassware. This means that their dishes are quite a bit heavier than their aluminum counterparts. But they are better. They are easier to clean as well.
.....Though this dish is made of thick, strong glass, it is still glass. If you drop it to the floor, surely it may break. If it lands on a rug, it should survive. Chances are it won't break if you bump it into something on accidente or drop it on the counter.
Pointers And Other Useful Info:
--Not for stovetop use.
--Not for broiler use.
--Microwave safe
--Dishwasher safe
--Freezer safe
Mama's Salmon Loaf Recipe:
.....I figured since everyone else left a family recipe, I'd leave one. My mom and gram make it once or twice a month. I don't eat it because I don't eat seafood.
Ingredients:
(2) 6oz. cans of 'Chicken Of The Sea' skinless, boneless, pink salmon
(1) egg
chopped onion (amount depends on your taste of onion)
1/3 cup Progresso bread crumbs
(1) can of 'Campbells' Cream of Celery soup
Directions:
.....Mix both cans off salmon, the egg, chopped onion and bread crumbs together in a mixing bowl, or even the pan. Shape into a loaf-like in the center of the pan. It might not spread to the edges. Pour can of Cream of Celery on top of the mound and spread, using as much as desired, over top and sides. Bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
*Goes great served with Cream of celery potatoes. Peel and cut potatoes into big bite-size pieces and boil until sorf. Drain water and pour a can of cream of celery soup on top. Both recipes work great only with the 'Campbells' brand soup. Others soup brand just suck.
