I've had five Black Berry devices over the past four plus years and the BB Curve 8310 is by far the best one. It is really a great alternative to the i Phone in that it boasts many of the features of the i Phone but KILLS it doing email. My wife has an i Phone and I've played with it extensively. Clearly the i Phone is better playing audio but the Curve 8310 is pretty close. Here are some specifics:
1. The 8310 is the first BB with built in GPS. The service that it uses (at least on ATT) is Telenav which is available for $10 per month. Telenav is awesome. I travel over 150 days per year for business and have used a Garmin 770 for the past six months, however during my last trip I used the Curve and liked it better than the Garmin. The Telenav is interactive in that it searches for traffic patterns evey five minutes and if there is traffic ahead of your route it will re route you. This is awesome!
2. The Curve has a full sized key board, similar to the older verions of the BB. This is where the Curve REALLY kills the i Phone. The i Phone has a "virtual keyboard' that you hunt and peck with a stylus. On the Curve, you can TYPE. I can do about 30 words per minute on the Curve. This really is the biggest difference between the two devices if you want/need to do extensive email get the Curve and forget about the i Phone.
3. The media player (it plays MP3's and nearly every type of vedia, etc. is close to the i Phone (the i Phone really is a better device solely to play music on) but the Curve does a great job. You can shuffle songs, etc. just like on the i Phone but you MUST buy a micro SD card if you want to store any sizeable number of songs or videos, etc.
4. I would highly recommend getting a 4 GB card but a 2 GB would also do. The 4GB will give you plenty of room to store tons of music files.
5. The Curve acoomodates a full size (regular) head phone jacks. I use my Bose QC3's with it and it shounds great. This really is a big deal as the older versions of BB and most smart phones you needed an adapter.
6. The camera on the Curve kills the camera on the i phone. It is much better and includes a built in flash.
7. The internet browser on the Curve is terrific. It is equal to the i Phone.
8. Track ball. The Curve uses a track ball instead of a stylus.
9. Last but NOT least is the email features. The Blackberry is the single best email machine available. With the i Phone you have to hunt and peck on a virtual keyboard that really stinks. The Curve syncs with Outlook (if you have an Exchange Server) for your calendar, etc.
10. The cost on the Curve has been reduced to $99 which is yet another reason to forget about the i PHone.
