Why did I buy this product?
I'm a gadgeteer, geek, nerd, whatever. I want to be able to do everything from anywhere and this baby is the best thing out to support me. I had a Nokia 9000i which was also very nice, but PalmOS vs. GEOS is a no-brainer.
Just yesterday I was carrying a StarTAC and a Palm III. Today, in the space where I was carrying my Palm III, I carry the pdQ! It's a pager, it's a wireless phone, it's a Palm III... it's supergadget! I disconnected my land line!
Describe your experience using this product:
I had it out of the box and surfing the web within an hour. The Verizon techs who helped me set it up were excellent! I got their $54/500 plan with the added $6.95 data access, voicemail, and every other feature you can imagine.
It's screen is smaller than a Palm III and pretty hard to see in anything other than excellent light with the default font settings, but the backlight is excellent and very easy to activate by pressing a button on top of the phone.
One thing I've always wanted to be able to do is check movie showtimes while walking down the street. I was able to download the entire city movie schedule in 1 minute 50 seconds from the time the idea occurred to me. AND it's on the phone until you load enough to fill the memory cache. I upped the memory cash to a megabyte. I can always lower it later. My plan is not to load this thing up with applications and data, but to use it as a wireless internet access terminal. I'll get a telnet or even better, an ssh client so I can get to those pesky UNIX machines I care for.
What do you love about this product?
A seamlessly internet enabled Palm III. It's the ginsu knife of gadgets!
What do you hate?
Absolutely nothing. If I were to niggle, I'd complain about the display, but the thing's much smaller than a Nokia 9000i and much more useful! And it's light, though it doesn't look it.
Who should buy this product?
Now that they can be had for $550, I'd recommend one for anyone who uses a Palm, pager and/or cell phone a lot.
