The pdQ smartphone from Qualcomm is a single device you want to consider if you're looking for the Palm PDA functionality, phone and pager all built into it. Imagine not having to carry 3 separate devices when you can make do with one..
The pdQ 1900 is a digital PCS (Personal Communications Service) phone combining the phone technology of CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and the organizer from Palm Computing. You can use the phone features and the organizer features together or individually. The phone could be used with the keypad open or closed and the palm apps can be used without having to turn the phone on.
The phone has a unique feature of tap-n-dial which lets you make calls right from the address book. One can also access the Internet and browse web sites through the built-in wireless modem and the browser application featured - can also send and receive e-mail from the featured mail app. The phone features are integrated with the Palm applications and hence you can make calls, send e-mail or access the Internet directly from Palm applications like the Address Book.
The smartphone also lets you receive and respond to messages through the voice mail notification capability from pdQalert that serves as a built-in pager. With this, you can distinguish between read and unread messages and respond to text and pager messages directly.
So, if you're looking for an all-in-one kind of device, this is definitely worth considering. However, you need to have data coverage from your carrier to be able to use the e-mail and browser apps. The carriers are just setting up data service and it could be some time before you have it in your city. Until then, use the phone features and the organizer and set aside your other devices - you may just have fallen in love with the pdQ smartphone. For more info, check out http://www.qualcomm.com/pdQ
