| Tokada's Full Review: Qualcomm QCP-2700 Cell Phone |
I've used a Qualcomm 2700 for a year and it hasn't let me down. It isn't one of the prettiest phones around, especially as newer and smaller models keep coming out, but it's cheap ($99) and reliable. It's comparatively bulky and doesn't really fit into a pocket, so spring for a belt holster (Sprint sells them for $14.95).
The main reason the 2700 is fairly hefty is that it has a detachable, external battery. It's good for about a day and a half of moderate use (the manual claims 40 hours in standby mode), but you can buy an extra battery, keep it charged, and snap it on for continued use. The worst thing about the phone so far is the charger. Mine broke twice: once the snap-on connector broke, and the second time the replacement that Sprint supplied free of charge burned out in two weeks. Apparently they had a shipment of defective chargers from China, but it made the phone useless while I waited for a new one.
One of the 2700's best features is the rotary dial control on the left side of the phone, which controls all the functions. You can do almost anything by scrolling and pressing in the dial, rather than punching the keypad. This makes it easier to use than some of the newer, cuter models that have come out more recently.
