90* Of Efficient Irrigation

May 23, 2008 (Updated May 23, 2008)

Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Accurate, Reliable, Lots of Irrigation --Even when the water pressure is low.

Cons:It is pretty much a specialty item.

The Bottom Line: If you have a need for a quarter circle 90* spraying channel, these are an excellent option. They have done well by me for over 5 years now.

Well I hate to hawk my own reviews, or in this case Rain Bird them, but if you read my review on the 6 zone timer by this company, you'll know that oft times, there really are circumstances where a specialty sprinkler such as this not only comes in handy, but actually proves to be the only tool for the job. This particular brand and model of sprinkler has proven to be a real workhorse around our house. We've built a sprinkler system that not only keeps things well irrigated, but one that actually saves water as compared to the old--hook up to the hose type sprinkling we were doing before hand. Let me tell you about how this little jewel fits in.

Basically, we have a small 1800 Sq. Foot home plopped in the midst of .35 acres. That's a lot of lawn, grass, shrubs, trees, ivy, etc., to keep in shape by the standards of Suburbia. We had to subdivide our lawn into six different sectors/zones in order to run things efficiently. As our lawns and natural areas are not the standard issue 90* angles all around in cookie cutter square and/or rectangular form, (Ive often thought trapezoids might be cool), we had to get very creative in order to make sure every shrub and/or blade of grass it's due, without over-watering. We ended up with six zones, and four different models of Rainbird sprinklers. Along the inner edge of the driveway, we actually have one of the few long stretches of a 90* angle. That's where this baby comes in.

Along the extreme outer perimeter are the more long throw pop up rotor types, and down the central row is a well placed grouping of the full circle 360* pop ups. However, in order to get water back to the inside of the lateral perimeter, we needed a grouping of pop ups that could throw a lot of water, but each had a rather narrow channel of throw in order to prevent to much overlap. These 90* models proved to be the absolute best option. Not only do they throw a lot of water, but their 90* pattern is exactly what they say it is on the label. Better yet, they have proven to be very reliable. Besides, at 11-15 feet of throw, they are pretty darned potent. They, unlike many others, perform up to their advertised distance specs. After well over 5 years of service, I have yet to have a problem w/them. A definite 5 star value.
