| sfainer's Full Review: RCA CC9390 Mini DV Camcorder |
So, I'll be honest. When I say top of the line, I mean the top of RCA's line. This camera wouldn't compete with a Canon GL or XL or a high-end Sony, but for $700 dollars, you're not gonna find a better camera.
Here's the deal:
I've been slobbering over a digital video camera for years now and I haven't had the guts to just buy one. I was in Fry's last week and saw this handsome camera (it actually looks like it's a movie camera) sitting on the their display table. I checked out the features. 1.3 Megapixel ccd, 3" LCD, Touch Screen, Color view finder, digital effects, 10x optical zoom, 400x digital zoom, yada yada yada.
Then I notice the price tag. 700 bucks seems pretty great. So I check out some reviews online and I check Amazon's prices. Amazon is selling this thing for 1235 dollars. "Holy cow," I says to myself, "This camera is a steal at 700." The list price is at least 1400 dollars, so you know it has some nice features, it's reliable, and the picture quality is what you're paying for.
Have I been let down? Heck no. I've only been experimenting so far, but I let the high school group that I'm the youth pastor for play around with it last night. We worked on a performance of Jesus feeding the five thousand. The picture is good and the sound is pretty clear, we were being to noisy. I like the S-video input for my TV. The quality is great. You would be very hard pressed to tell the difference between what this films and a news report on TV (not the studio, but in the field). This camera is definitely enough to start making fine funny films or low-budget documentaries about paste, or whatever.
I'll let you know how it goes. Right now, I'm contemplating taking this baby to Mexico to film the building of two houses we're going to put up. Very cool.
Go get it if it seems like the steal that it seemed to me!
