Pros: Backlighting. Good Code Library. Lots of hard buttons. Learns from other remotes
Cons: Limited memory. Durability concerns. 4 AAA batteries. May lose programming when changing batteries.
The Bottom Line: This remote is a good value despite its memory limitations.
It can probably made to control the essential features of most of your components. JP1 support looks promising
funkyblues's Full Review: RCA RCU810 LCD Remote Control
I picked up the RCU810 from ebay for around $20 + shipping. They go for around $50 in stores at the time of this writing. The remote features lots of hard key - this can be nicer than LCD remotes as you can feel the keys. It also offers backlighting - a major plus for home theatre applications.
It has a pretty extensive code library which is a good thing because the memory for learning from other remotes is very limited. I couldn't find a code for my Philips Tivo and ran out of memory shortly after programming the Tivos controls into the RCU810. That said. It does control most features on all of my components:
Pioneer receiver and CD player, Samsung DVD, Panasonic TV & VCR.
The LCD could be easier to read. But the backlighting is very nice. For the price it is a bargain. I have not tried this yet but there are instructions on the net on how to adapt this remote to use the JP1 interface which would allow you to completely reprogram the whole remote using your PC - this is very promising and I will likely try it out shortly. Overall it is a great value and has met my need reasonably well. I'd recommend it to others as long as you can live with the memory constraints.
