kens's Full Review: RCA RD1000 Kazoo (32 MB) MP3 Player
For the last couple months I had been debating on which mp3 player I would buy, if I bought one. After a little research, I came upon a few models in my $100 budget: the Rio One 32MB, the RCA Kazoo 32MB, and two others. However, the RCA takes top honors for the price category.
The Kazoo is extremely small (only a little bigger than a Tic Tac container) and very light. It runs on two AA batteries for a long while. The display is very easy to read with a large LCD screen and a simple format. The player it self is also a cinch to operate, with 4 main buttons which even glow in the dark! The Kazoo also has 5 different sound modes: Flat, Bass, Rock, Pop, and Jazz. Each of these 5 modes bring out a different voice a little more in the song you are listening to. The Kazoo also has a nice feature of repeating the tracks or choosing them randomly, like most CD players today.
The sound is incredible. It's hard to believe that such a big, full, sound quality is able to come from that little box! The volume range is very big, from very soft to very loud.
The RCA Kazoo comes with a USB cable and all the music management software: USB Drivers, MusicMatch Jukebox, RealPlayer G2, Real Jukebox, and a user guide along with the provided booklet. The Kazoo is for use with Windows 98, Windows Me, and Windows 2000. The provided software is very simple, and allows you to download mp3's to download to the Kazoo through the USB cable. The transfer time is very quick. You can also take CD's and convert them to mp3's to use on the Kazoo.
Although the Kazoo only comes with 32 Megabytes (which is about 30 min. of high quality music, or 45-60 min. of slightly lower quality music) the Kazoo is easily upgradeable to easily twice the memory with MultiMedia Cards at a low price. Today, you could buy an extra 32MB MMC card for about $20-$30, so there is no need to worry about how many songs you can put on the Kazoo.
I recommend the RCA Kazoo to anyone wishing to have quality, portable music where ever they go. The price is very reasonable and the Kazoo is well worth your $$$. I know I'll have mine for years to come!
