rahulthakur's Full Review: RCA RD1000 Kazoo (32 MB) MP3 Player
Before buying this RCA MP3 player I had done a lot of research into different players. I was looking for something cheap but at the same time one that was problem free and easy to use. I have never used a RCA product in my life since they are very cheap ( I don't believe that cheap things are terrible) but I never got hooked on to RCA (despite it being a GE brand). Anyways, this one had good reviews all around and it was priced at $ 69.99 at Best Buy...so I bought one.
PROS: This unit is small and rather compact. The display has all the necessary information and it is presented in a simple way. That is to say...when I am riding my bike I can see which song I am listening to without taking my eyes off the road for a long time. I installed the driver and then the software (which went without a gliche) and then I was ready to go. Now comes the CONS part
CONS: The software that comes with this unit is not that user friendly. In that I don't mean that it is difficult to use, I just thought that in this era of Windows drag and drop etc. it fell short of my expectations. I could not figure out how to transfer songs to the player itself and had to refer to the manual. Even after that I could not figure out how to do that since there are a couple of operations that one needs to perform to get the songs on the device. First, you have to load the songs into the player list. Then those songs are loaded into the "send to the device" list. You have to then select the songs that you wish to put on the list and hit "download". So after a few attempts I figured out faster way of doing it but still it is not as intuitive as anything else that we use now-a-days. Also, the player looks very ordinary. I know that looks don't matter, it is whats inside that counts...the buttons look very plastic and the buttons on the side (volume and mode selections) are difficult to operate (slightly) Back to PROS
PROS - II: I like the fact that there are 4 sampling options - 128Kbs, 96Kbs, 64Kbs, 32Kbs. I also did not see that much of quality difference between the 128 kbs and the 64 kbs ( but then again I am NO Zubin Mehta)....and I could fit about 70 min of music onto the device.
