Pros:Quality sound, easy to set up with
most functions on the remote.
Cons:You cannot place another component on top of the receiver(heat vents).
The Bottom Line: With this, you can experience the new world of multi-channel
sound and feel assured of very good quality!!!
If you want to experience true 4 channel surround sound and

5.1 channel digital theatre sound-at a very reasonable price-get this complete set.
It includes the receiver, 4 two way speakers(great sounding), 1 center-channel speaker(great sounding) and a
100 watt subwoofer(adequate bass)!! All the speaker wires
are included, manual and remote.
There is no fan in the receiver and the transformer does not
hum(even while listening to the subtlest music passages the
receiver is silent). This is really important in a good system because even slight noises may distract the sensitive
listener. I hear no hum when I turn the system fairly
loud(no sources on)-that confirms high quality.
All the speakers can be balanced with the remote. This is
important because with 6 speakers you don`t want to keep
running to the receiver every time you change sources.
It sounds great on Stereo TV, Stereo VCR, DVD, CD, FM Stereo and AM. It has 7 DSP(digital special effects settings) for the analog sources(Theatre, Hall, Stadium, Arena, Concert, Club and off). Since it has the 4 channel decoder all these sources can be decoded into 4 channels or if mono-the DSP effects will give an incredible stereo(4 channel) presence. If you have not experienced multi-channel sound, this is the system to get-it is a whole new world. You will discover sounds on CD`s etc.
that you never would have believed were there and they
float through space!!
The receiver also has a 5.1 Digital decoder. If you
connect a DVD player(using an optical or coaxial)
digital cable to the receiver-it has these inputs,
you will be able to hear 5 separate distinct channels
of sound with the subwoofer being the distinct 6th
channel(all can be balanced with the remote from your
sofa!!). You must have a 5.1 Dolby Digital encoded DVD
disk to hear this sound. I have a Special Edition DVD of "Total Recall". It is encoded with the 5.1 channel
sound. It sounds great through this RCA system and you
really do get a treat for the ears!! Note: there are
many 5.1 Dolby Digital Movie DVD`s available. You must
check the DVD movie case or ask the store to confirm this.
This RCA set will decode the sound for outstanding
6 channel effects!!
My living room is 11X12X10ft. high. This system fills
the room-with more than enough power to spare. I would
recommend this system for college students as it so
compact and advanced-and for anyone who loves sound!!
It has excellent FM Stereo and will pull in
those distant AM stations at night!!
This set will keep you glued to the TV as the MTS
(the 4 channel decoded Dolby Stereo TV Sound),
comes through really great!!!(The special effects
on "Space Channel" come through loud and clear making
this system ideal for Sci-Fi fanatics!!!).
If you have a Satellite dish-this receiver has the
necessary inputs for highest quality sound and
picture-switchable with the remote!!!(Yes, a SAT
Lastly note that this unit does not have a DTS(Digital
Theatre System Decoder). DVD`s encoded with DTS
are always encoded with Dolby Digital(most with 5.1).
Thus since both systems sound similar-you can use
the receiver`s Dolby Digital to decode the 6 channels.
If you have a DTS decoder included with your DVD player,
this receiver has 6 channel analog inputs-so you can
plug in and play DTS!!
You can download the manual for this set at RCA.com-search
until you find the RCA RT2280 Home Theatre System and you will see an area to download the PDF file(the system manual). This explains all the features of this wonderful
